We are a rare breed. Once a Gashead always a Gashead !! Frustrating, angry, happy, excited, brilliant, so bad, happy, mad. But wouldn’t change for the world after 67 yrs and always live in hope. UTG Stoney

Would think the forum has an older population than some of the social media places these days.

40 years young here 😁. First match 5/10/91, just before I was 8.. in a 2-1 win against Middleborough I'm impressed with everyone remembering their first games. My Mum made my Dad start taking us kids to Twerton back in the 80's to get us out the house on a Saturday - and I will have to admit that I didn't immediately fall in love with the experience. The car drive seemed long (it was actually a weird relief when we played City away!). Then a fairly long walk beside some traintracks to a smoke-filled pub (which I loathed). Then another walk to the ground where I could rarely see the action... and when I did manage a good view I had no real clue what was going on (nothing has changed there tbh). My Primary school teacher was a Gashead though - and I would occasionally see him at Twerton. He would put newspaper clippings of significant Rovers events on the classroom pinboard (the ones that spring to mind were us selling Penrice and Martyn..) - so that did keep me somewhat interested. It was when I started playing more football and watching it on telly my interest and therefore matchday enjoyment developed. Was fully obsessed by my teens.. even putting together a (utterly sh**e - as most were back then) fan website in the mid-90's (to my shame is still available somewhere on webarchive.org). I was part of the "Internet Gas" collective when the internet was in its relative infancy. I subscribed, and contributed to, the GasList mailing list... which I suppose was like a very early version of this forum (I still have a load of those mails archived from ~2000 on a CD somewhere and on one of my webservers) Stopped watching Rovers so much when I started playing football on Saturdays instead - but when I "retired" from playing, I got a season ticket and have been attending regularly ever since. I have 3 kids and the older two (11 & 8) have been to see Rovers a number of times. I make sure we are seated with a good view and ply them with sweets etc to ensure they don't have the same experience I endured at their age They have proper loved going - but (selfishly) I would rather save such occasions for special treats rather than make it a routine.. as it will keep them interested in the long term - and leave me free to get absolutely smashed I will make sure they remember their first game too. Bristol Rovers 4 - 2 RochdaleEvans 10 Beesley 60,66 Collins 51,89 H.Anderson 84Quite a rollercoaster that one was! (PS. They haven't seen us lose yet...)
