Tonight I have emailed Tom Gorringe about this chant on the terraces, I do not want my child singing this at school thinking it’s appropriate. The Neanderthals singing it probably don’t even know where Ireland is. There are posters up around the ground about reporting incidents yet this is allowed to go on game after game. Could you please state your position on it? I looked for your contact details as a Fans Director on the Supporters Club website, this looks extremely out of date, X has nothing and I rarely use Facebook. So as I know you look at this site I am appealing here. This chant needs removing, starting tomorrow. Also an update on the toilets also wouldn’t go amiss.

The SC seems to be lacking clear leadership and direction again since the sad passing of David Thomas who was doing some wonderful work.
Sadly Helen and Steve are carrying on where other directors have left off, taking the position but not really doing anything with it.
I mean, it took a few of us to make some comments about the clubs direction of travel for them to wake up and organise a fans forum which is limited to the SC pretty much.
If they had thought it through, they could have asked all fans to fill out a questionnaire with 3 open questions to be asked which they want answers to which then could be selected and a ticket given for the forum event.
It'll just be the same old same old now.
Pointless exercise.

I also agree about the IRA chant. It's pathetic, embarrassing, offensive, out of date and it's about time something done about it.
Is it really hard to make up some other words to the similar tune?
I'm stunned no one has filmed the idiots singing it yet and reported it.

This being the "fk the City and the IRA" song, correct? Or is there another IRA song I've missed? Genuine question.

😄 How about abusing the ref? Abuse of opposition players? Dead city fans? Committing suicide?
These songs ok but a daft reference to the Ira and a flute which is rarely chanted by less than 100 kids should be addressed? Surely we can parent our kids beyind what they hear on a terrace terrace anyway? Tiktok is way worse.

Not a chant I'd ever join in with but I don't understand why you'd be offended by others singing it? Unless you support the IRA or Bristol City it's a fairly innocuous song IMO.

Could those with an issue with it explain why it’s offensive and to who?
It’s said to be offensive, nobody has explained why.

Does seem weird that it’s the U25 Burberry and Stone Island clad wannabe hooligans that sing it - perhaps Lance should pluck one of them out of the Thatchers End at half time and ask them over the mic what they are singing about. Will be more fun than birthday messages and raffle numbers!

I find it embarrassing that anybody is still singing "IRA" surely most fans feel the same about a terrorist organisation?
Although surely it's down to the club to put a stop to it rather than the Supporters Club?

I would have made a statement on this ages ago, you are right but we only have 5 songs and that’s one of the favourites!
Those Ultra’s down ar the gate water all over us regardless of drum, but then we love being rag bag and having no imagination.
I’ve always said to Dad when we hear it, I wonder what kind of job the person does who sings the IRA bit of that song?!
Oxford fans up here sing it to me laughing at me, I prayed we wouldn’t sing it 2 weeks ago but we did.

Lots of unrest in Ireland at the moment the country is being swamped with migrants.

I’m still waiting for someone to explain why a chant about a terrorist organisation who were at war with the UK until quite recently is offensive. It’s not my song, I don’t sing it. I do need to know if I’m asked to endorse grabbing people by their arms and legs and throwing them out of public events for speech, why this is necessary.

The Good Friday Agreement was signed before many of the "singers" of that "song" were born. It's often prefaced or followed with a seemingly catch all, "no surrender". Given that the Agreement involved all sides surrendering their absolutist claims, singing those words is churlish and their meaning is redundant.
Before anyone accuses me of pro-IRA sympathies, you couldn't be further from the truth. I think they were and are (including Adams, McGuinness and others) gangster scum. That feeling applies to the UDA/UFF/INLA and all other NI "freedom fighters".
Up The Gers, by the way and f**k sectarianism.

Doesn’t bother me too much, it’s not like ‘come out ya black and tans’ is ringing round the Mem!

Sure the song is really aimed at the Teds... Come up with some new words Somerset, get on the band stand and belt them out pre game.
