George Friend is going to be head of recruitment according to the post. Thoughts on this??
He has played at a number of clubs and levels, so he should have good contacts. But at the same time, he has no experience of the role. We need someone, but time will tell if he's the right person for the job.

Think this could work, but obviously depends on the money he has to work with.
As in all jobs, if you only ever employ people with experience then eventually no one has experience.

Interesting appointment.
Means we can keep Friend on without worrying how many games he can play! Assuming he’s not retiring.

Who knows if this is the right appointment but it is an appointment we needed before the summer so it’s good news. Good luck to him. Seems like a good guy and hope hhe has lots of contacts from his long playing career all over the country

I’d imagine this appointment will coincide with retirement from playing. He’s got a lot of experience and contacts and will presumably have impressed the club with his knowledge. No reason to think this won’t be a success.

Good luck to him. Seems a good bloke and respected in the game. Will need the full support and financial backing to make it a success. Hopefully he's allowed to build a proper network.

He has his own recruitment company so he’s probably not on our payroll. He has coaching badges and seems very intelligent. He may not work exclusively for us. Sounds like something similar to Gary Penrice’s operation.

At least he cant get injured doing this....or can he? You couldn't make it up, a player who seems to disappear with the slightest injury now gets rewarded with a senior role at the club. Just when you thought we couldn't employ somebody worse than TW to head up recruitment, we've managed to do it!

I would expect that he will be the experienced player that will talk at the Q&A.
If so I am sure that he will be able to provide general answers (if not specific names) to the summer re-build type of targets.

Just when you thought we couldn't employ somebody worse than TW to head up recruitment, we've managed to do it! So even if he could potentially be really good in such a position you would reject him purely out of spite and to teach him a lesson for having some injuries late in his career. Great logic. What makes you so confident that he will be worse than TW? I guess you know a lot more about his skills and knowledge than the rest of us? Perhaps you would like to expand on that?

Have a look at his Linkedin profile. I would say he’s a far better prospect than TW ever was. I suspect that the deal is to put him on a nominal retainer salary with commission on successful signings. If this is the case then there is little to criticise.

Give George a chance, after a year you can debate this, but this is shocking, we ain't Real Madrid!

Will he work exclusively for us? Will he concentrate on non league/lower league players? Will they be young up and coming prospects? How will he work without an Academy into which prospects can be fed? Will he make contact with Pirate ?

Had a look on Linkedin, very impressive, not your average footballer, could be a real asset to the club.

The thing is to get all the roles in place and have a linked up system across the club. Once people are in roles you can decide whether they are excellent or need replacing. You have to make a start though...which is where we are at. Lets wish George is very successful in the role.

He clearly sees this as the next step and I hope he can make a real impact. If he does of course I suspect his ambition and drive will see him move onwards and upwards quite quickly but let's see. Very positive.
