We have an option so surely will extend for a year
Also fair play to him giving credit to those that create. Evans especially must be a strikers dream.

Another great performance from him today , several superb hold ups and lay offs in the first half and great defensive work in the second. It’s a no brainer for me, offer him a decent contract for next season. He lives locally so that should help no end. I think the fact that he lives locally is very important. Pretty sure it’s the only reason we managed to sign him in the first place.

The club will obviously take the out their option of extending his contract so he will be our player next season as well. However, at some point in the next couple of years his legs are going to go. Hopefully not just yet and I can see him leading the line for us again next season. Hopefully the club are already looking to the future, he's of the best natural finishers we have ever had so a role as a striker coach once his playing days are over can only be a good thing.

What price a Martin hatrick against his old side Derby to take him to top spot in the scorers?!

Enjoyed that, CM always a decent listen. If we can afford it, after his playing career would be a great striking coach, if the owners get their wish when he retires we ll be in the championship, so with extra revenue would be possible.

Playing devils advocate, how do you know he would make a great coach? Has he got his badges? Does he have a desire to coach? Can he coach in a way that helps players develop? Who knows?!

Look at his experience and how well he speaks, lives locally and too young to retire, Ben Garner has more badges than John Kayes 😂😂

A goal every 119 minutes. When you consider a match is about 100 minutes long these days with all the injury time he’s almost averaging a goal a game this season. Incredible form.

If we can afford it, after his playing career would be a great striking coach, if the owners get their wish when he retires we ll be in the championship, so with extra revenue would be possible. Did anyone hear the Chris Brass interview about playing under Chris Waddle at Burnley. He was late 30s and would take a free kick or corner and show his players where he wanted the ball to go. Problem was he was exceptionally talented and could still do it 8 times out of 10. The players could only do it 2 out 10. Good players do not necessarily become good coaches. It is hard to pass on innate ability. In a split second Martin can sum a situation to go near or far past etc, but apart from telling a striker in training to play percentages, it's hard to pass that sixth sense on. Even if on a one on one he gets coached and coached, someone like Bob Lee, Bob Newton or Mousa Dagnogo will hardly ever score! (Not for us anyway!)

I take your point on badges though as I actually think DC started to overthink things after he did the highest badge!

Penrice was a brilliant forwards coach, did he have badges? I have no idea if he had badges. Did he? If he didn’t what was it that made him brilliant? Apart from the strikers he worked with at Rovers? There is a video chat with Ollie on how he got a striker to have a session with Penrice because he kept missing. Penrice spent 10 minutes with him and improved his goal ratio.

You’re missing my point. I’m not questioning whether he was a good coach. What did he do in that 10 minutes? Why would anyone assume just because he is a good player that CM would replicate what Penrice could do?
