Combination of living in Yorkshire and work means we don’t get to many Gas games. Only game so far this season was away at Barnsley. School holidays plus visiting my Mum gives us the opportunity to go today, and I must admit I’m a bit wary. My son told me last night before he went to bed that he is really excited about going to the game. We’ve spoken about the goal drought, possibility of crowd turning etc. Still, can’t argue at £20 total for both of us to sit in the South Stand. Praying for a good performance and a good atmosphere. So we went, and my fears were confirmed. I have seen the Mem more toxic - in the spell when we got relegated in the season of Trolls/Penney/Campbell it was really horrible towards the end. In its way, this was worse though, as the home fans were just apathetic. No singing or passion. That’s not us and it’s not the Mem. It’s obviously a reaction to what we’ve been seeing these last couple of months. Fair play to Reading. Everything we weren’t, yesterday. Passionate and vocal fan base, highly animated manager geeing them up and a fully committed and purposeful team. I didn’t think they were particularly brilliant but they didn’t need to be to win comfortably. Luckily my ten year old is mature enough and has seen enough football not to be put off by this. The first football he saw from the Gas was that season on ifollow under Garner so he has developed a pretty high tolerance level!

At least DC and JB had some success in the past, MT flopped at Rotherham and only managed Exeter for 11 games in L1. You could say that MT was a better manager than JB in the fact that Exeter got promotion higher than us in league one and that MT has managed in the Championship, which JB never has. won't call dragging a team to the bottom of the championship managing

I've been getting flashbacks to the Graydon era, we haven't renewed our season tickets.

Reflecting on last night I would love to understand what the gameplan was.
If it seriously was long-ball to Brown and McCormick is it any wonder he's lost the dressing room?
Post-match was also incredibly worrying - he will 'try' to get some ideas into the players ahead of Cheltenham... TRY ffs.
'We need to score a goal' you NEED to work on tactics and patterns of play in training then Matt, and maybe start at least one striker!
One of the worst/most uninspiring managers I've ever seen, let alone at Rovers.

Four things that are visible every game - we almost always pass to players receiving the ball with their backs to goal which means n opposition player already on them whilst they look to control the ball - contrast that with other teams who seem to find space to pass in front of their players in space (perhaps that’s a reflection on our poor press). And talking of other teams how is it almost all of them have a long throw option (for Reading it seemed their only one). Out throw ins have been awful for years so nothing to lose. Thirdly please keep at least one player up at corners - it usually means 2 defenders staying back. At present we just kick it forward and immediately lose possession. Finally, SHOOT! So much passing across the pitch back and forth until we either lose possession or pass back to defenders. Shots can cause deflections, corners, penalties and even goals ! None of this is rocket science but we really do shoot ourselves in the foot by not adopting these basics.

Also, how is it that Rovers have so many players in the box when goals are conceded. The first goal from the long throwing, Rovers had all 11 players in the box against Reading's 5. Rovers had 7 of those players stood in a line waiting for the ball against 3 Reading's players. Yet it was 2 of those Reading players that managed to win the headers and score. Inevitably when goals are conceded, because there are so many defenders, no one takes any individual responsibility.

Four things that are visible every game - we almost always pass to players receiving the ball with their backs to goal which means n opposition player already on them whilst they look to control the ball That`s not just down to the player who`s passing the ball, it`s also down to the player receiving the ball. Good players make space for themselves, poor ones don`t.

Inevitably when goals are conceded, because there are so many defenders, no one takes any individual responsibility. This is where I find it a bit hard to decide whether Taylor is at fault. Obviously fingers will and should be pointed his way a bit as he is ultimately the manager but surely he won't be telling the players to not be competing for the first, second, third ball etc. Doesnt matter how you organise the players into positions in the box if they dont then take it upon themsleves to compete effectively once there? So is it the players lack of ability and desire to win those balls that is in question too, Taylor must be as frustrated with that as all of us especially being a defender himself.

even Carlisle are showing more fight than us at the moment and they are relegated That sometimes happens. I remember being at the Den on the last game of the season. Rovers were already relegated. We got a pretty good result that day (and some free seats/turf/goal posts).

They can play with no fear of any more negative consequences from another bad result now so play more freely.
