Ask about Boehly's Chelsea revolution in a few years..... Best example of horrendous contracting I remember is Newcastle giving Alan Pardew and Graham Carr eight-year deals lol Darrell Clarke - given a 5 year deal in June 2017, sacked December 2018 I would love to see what is actually in one of these contracts. Surely must have some break clauses - caveats for the employer. I can't believe we paid DC 3.5 years money when we sacked him. 12m perhaps.

Port Vale also gave him a 5 year deal in May 2022 and was sacked in April 2023. 10 years worth of contract for 2.5 years service, not bad!! The moral of this story is don't give Darrell Clarke lengthy contracts!

Learn yer history. There was a team near us that gave 10 year contracts when in top tier. They then went bust, got the players to rip up their contracts and the club relaunched as a new entity. Let's think must have been about 1982.

Scott Fraser was released just before deadline day and if he recaptures his 22/23 form (or 19/20 & 20/21) he would potentially be a good signing for someone at this level.

I'd have a look at him, specially on a free. Think there was definitely something there to work with.

He'd be a great pick-up imo. Although we're well-stocked in the attacking midfield-type areas tbh, especially after investing in Hutchinson.

Hutchinson yes, but Conteh, Lindsay and Garrett obviously more defensive minded options and conservative passers, Ward box-to-box type and has created two assists since he's been at the club, and not sure what McCormick offers anymore!? Who are the creative passers and schemers in the middle that can help unlock a defence?

IMO we’re definitely lacking in the creative midfield department I’d add that id like to see Shaw given a good chance

Your heat map of Fraser shows an attacking midfielder with a preference to go wide left. Conteh, Garrett and Lindsay aren't in the same conversation. For my money, we have Hutchinson, Sotiriou (plays left sided attack a lot), Sinclair, arguably Thomas (he's left-footed, after all...), now Kofi and Micah Anthony... Don't get me wrong, I agree with you - Fraser would be a great signing and we do lack creativity from our current central midfielders but my point being that I'd surmise GF/MT would think they have enough options to not bringing another (costly, wages-wise, I'd assume) player in.

Fraser played as a CM mostly in a 4-3-3 often alongside Albie Morgan and George Dobson and the heat map shows a central midfielder tasked with breaking the lines and creating...his heat map every season looks very similar. On Saturday we had McCormick, Ward and Garrett (early season heat map below) operating in central areas and nobody can tell me they are a better option or offer more creativity centrally than someone like Fraser. In future he could easily slot in with his progressive and creative passing alongside CDM Conteh and box-to-box Ward for example, or last Saturday instead of McCormick. Whether there is room in the budget is another matter, but I do worry about our lack of creativity in those central areas.

Good age too at 29 for an unattached player with his level of experience

I wouldn’t mind us targeting Dan Crowley in the future. Apparently we were in for him during his Morecambe days, but Notts County offered better wages. If that is the case it might prove to be difficult, but he's definitely one I'd be interested in if there was any possibility.
