Guessing that the plan is to see us transition towards the Exeter model over the next few years where they cover their relatively small losses (a million or so) from the sale of youngsters, with of course Ollie Watkins being the stand out player. Given they clearly don't have a championship club competing with them for talent and their network of scouts, buying players, improving them and selling them on might need to be our strategy

I know you have fantastic knowledge of a not of players, but we can't sign them all. So if you had to pick one for each position, who would you pick??? Also if we were to break our transfer record on a player with potential, who we could make a profit on, but still afford their wages. Who would you pick?? Is Lawrence Vigouroux from Burnley realistic? I don't know, but if we were in for an experienced keeper he would be my choice. I'd be in for Rio Hillen a 22-year-old LCB earning about £1,300 in the Dutch 2nd tier and out-of-contract. If Notts County were able to sign Ruben Rodrigues from the 2nd tier over there when he was one of best players in league, then surey a possibility. And I would be in for Jordi Escobar a 6ft 2in 22-year-old out-of-contract CF. Zac Williams at Crewe is out-of-contract (according to transfermarkt), but would require compo due to age. Definite sell-on potential. Tom King at Cheltenham big potential and I like the potential of Sonny Cox at Exeter. Edit: But definitely sign Oyirwoth if possible. 🙂 Hopefully the Conteh signing wasn't a one off and we won't be afraid to pay fees for young players with potential. If they are young, then the wage budget won't be too high. I know the initial out lay would be higher, but if we develop just a few of them and make a big profit it would hopefully be enough to cover the fees in the long run. We tried to break our transfer record on Ennis, if the rumors were true. Will we break it this summer, or just look at free players. Free players aren't necessary cheaper in the long run. The summer will tell us more about the new owners. First summer transfer window. No excuses of we will get better value in the next window! I agreed with what we were told in January, but will they back it up now!

Do you get any acknowledgement back so you know they have seen it? Hope they follow up on some of your tips! I passed the Oyirwoth tip off to Wael via a third party and Wael queried Visa issues etc, so I replied via the third party he qualifies (or will do imminently) through the Elite Significant Contribution rule introduced last summer, due to Oyirwoth's youth and full international (full debut at 17) appearances for Uganda. So there is acknowledgement, and when I tipped the club off previously about Richard Kone they had him watched apparently and liked him, but at the time there were visa issues and it was also thought not worth pursuing without a development squad at the time. I'm actually just impressed you get acknowledgement from them in some way. I half expected your emails/tweets/messages (whatever) to them to just be met with radio silence. Hopefully this is a sign of a change/better things to come. If we're budgetarily constrained then I really hope we're scouring the non-league market far and wide for gems. When clubs like Barnsley, Peterborough etc. can successfully attack the lower leagues market, there's no reason we shouldn't be able to when we can offer a metropolitan (albeit expensive) city of Bristol to live in versus the arse end of nowhere. We should be looking to be a focal stepping stone for talent from Cornwall, Devon, Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset among others. I worked for 2014 FA Vase winners Sholing FC during my university days and the standard of player in levels 7-10 even back in 2014-2017 was excellent - plenty who could be forging league careers in the future. I'm the best part of a decade out from that now but I can only imagine the quality getting better at those levels as the talent overflows.

City recently signed a very promising young GK Isaac Finch who was playing in the first-team at Bridgwater United. They also added a big lefty CB who was at Bridgwater College and doing bits with England College side. Some outstanding talent in the non-league pyramid that would be worth a look for any future development squad. Not all of them will be good enough of course, but quite a few that have caught my eye worth of at least a trial. Attachment Deleted

I was told we had to cut the budget in January and we have to cut it now. But we would pay transfer fees for the right players at the right price. I was told the Collins money, would be reinvested. That was a few months ago though.

I'm not sure if he's been mentioned on here, but Will Ferry might be a decent option for left back.
Rated very highly by Cheltenham fans.
Still only 23, so ticks the young and improving box.
Averging 40 games a season over the past 3 years.
Would require compensation as Cheltenahm have offered him a new deal.

Really like Isaac Hutchinson at Walsall. He's 6ft 2in btw, not what transfermarkt says. Attachment Deleted

Ignoring the connections to the other side of Bristol, I wonder if Tyreeq Bakinson might be available again this summer. Has been loaned out from Sheff Wed to Charlton so possibly not fancied there. Especially if they stay up now.
Also Callum Wright at Plymouth, again if they stay up, seems to have been more of a squad player this year so maybe dropping down to be a more key player might appeal.

Mixed message isn’t it, reduced budget whilst almost matching our transfer fee record a few months ago

Mixed message isn’t it, reduced budget whilst almost matching our transfer fee record a few months ago I think from the club we’ve only heard better use of the budget. And comparatively lower (due to more teams with higher budgets next year). No official budget cuts. Although that seems obvious. Think we’d all be happy with much less waste! Let’s be a Lincoln/Northampton and outperform rather than a Charlton and spend loads to finish bottom half!

I'd take a punt on McKirdy, it hasnt worked for him at Hibs but he was a pest at Swindle. Now JB has gone we need a new Pantomime villain I thought he had a serious heart issue, not sure we need another potential "sick note*? Edit: I didn't realise he joined Swindon on loan at the end of last season, he didn't seem to do a lot whilst on loan. 4 games one goal, were you expecting more goals?

Ronan Curtis seemed to prove his fitness at Wimbledon and obviously vast experience at League One level. Worth consideration? Attachment Deleted

I expected more games and goals, assuming he joined what was a poor Swindon team in January and had fully recovered from his heart issues then you would have thought he would play in most games not just the 4, which is probably less than Harry Vaughan played for Rovers.

It's all a bit disconcerting if the likes of Stockport and Mansfield are going to have bigger budgets than Rovers next season. You have to sense if GF/ MT don't find some cut price gems we're going to have a season long relegation fight against teams like Shrewsbury and Burton.

Sean Raggett may be a decent centre back option. Only 30 and has played a lot of games for Pompey. Just released.

Mixed message isn’t it, reduced budget whilst almost matching our transfer fee record a few months ago Or alternatively, looking to use the budget we have better than we have in the past perhaps? Signings more focused on players who will definitely play and make a difference. Less waste perhaps. Or even buy strikers? 😉 UTG!
