You can't help but think they've got themselves a bit of a bargain there depends what wages and bonus and agent fee theyve agreed to. Wont be cheap! A proven goalscorer at this level without a burden of a transfer fee (we were supposedly willing to shell out £800k+ not that long ago). He will definitely command a decent signing on fee, wage etc - but still. A bargain for a relegated Championship club to absorb.

Finally JCH has put pen to paper and we can stop going on about him no it will just be months of moaning because we didnt get him now Think it will be less than a month of moaning that we didn’t get him, once we start making signings it will shift to moaning about who we have got!

I'd have Humphrys a lot higher though, very mobile striker - Manc born though so imagine he'll end up at one of the North West clubs (got Wrexham written all over it). GK is an interesting debate because those are three great ones for the level, so do we go for one of those or just let Jed be our number one this year (with an experienced backup) and see what happens? I vote the latter, personally. I feel like signing Harry Kite and Alex Hartridge are two destined to happen moves, just makes a lot of sense all round. Reminds me of Buckle bringing in the likes of Mansell, Bevan and Zebroski - at the time, those moves made sense. Shaun Rooney would be a great pick-up too to add a bit more fight/bite.

ALL football managers will want to bring into a club players they know, respect and rate.
Why should Matt Taylor be castigated and criticised for doing this?
Darrell Clarke brought in Stuart Sinclair, Jamie White and James Clarke from Salisbury City, his previous club. He also brought in Matty Taylor and Jake Gosling who were playing for non-league sides at that time. Plus Manse from TUFC.
If 50% of any signings work out that is a great record. DC did well.
Supporters may recall the early John Ward permanent signings of Mark McChrystal, Ryan Brunt, Steve Mildenhall, Oumare Toukare, JJOT and Steven Gillespie.
50% success at least.
Matt Taylor's first two permanent signings are Kamil Conteh and Chris Martin. Not a bad start. Surely it makes sense that he will now start to look towards Exeter City and Rotherham United for other potential signings.
Some of the possible signings for us were given their league debuts by MT. He will have known some of these players for four or five years. They will know how MT works and would only join us if they trust and respect him.
Rather than belittling MT for signing ex-Grecians and the like he should be taken to task if he DOES NOT sign any players who he has previously worked with. Unless, of course, he finds a pot of gold to fish in a bigger pond.
I look forward to hearing news of players signing for us that will probably understand the manager and his style of management and are happy to play for him because of previous experiences.
As always, if 50% of the signings end up a true asset it will be good work.

Good list percy. Eyoma from Lincoln not on it but he’s been released and I’d have thought he’d be worth considering. Apart from that Ekpetita stands out. The other player not mentioned and it’s strikers we want is Tshimanga. Was on fire two seasons ago with Chesterfield, went to Posh I think but sent out on loan this season which wasn’t a success. I think he’s been released by Posh. I don’t know if his form has fallen off a cliff or the injury he had has really affected him. Either way…. Apart from that Conn-Clarke, I’d get Aguilera back on loan if possible and see about Will Evans. Not sure about Tolaj or Curtis, but if we did I’d get used to it and think we’d done well. Despite losing the 12 players (?) we need to supplement with quality not just quantity. Seems like Kite and Hartridge may be coming which will supplement the squad. Glad we’ve not gone for JCH or even Lee Gregory. Another player to add to the list of players we should have got 10 years ago when he left Halifax.
UTG!

Problem is Sir Trev is that fundamentally we want to be signing players that are better than what we have as this gives us the best chance to to improve the side (appreciate no guarantees). I dont know why we cant cast our nets wider than ex players, I genuinely expect that the players mentioned on this forum are more than what George Friend has thought about so far. as people have said average wages is speculated to be 2-4k a week for League1, Bristol or not thats more than enough to relocate for, we should focus outside the west country, even outside the UK. Our transfer policy is hit and miss at best so lets think about changing it up.

Thats one thing I thought would improve when MT came in, sadly Brown was just as useless as he was under Barton.

ps. I hope this thread is going to include all the transfer speculation and actual news this summer. I hope the others can be merged into this one. It seems to be the most popular. Once a player signs then they can get own thread but until ….

I don't think Brown had fully recovered from his off field problems and his time away from football where he couldn't train. At least Taylor did drop him and tell him he had to work on his fitness and motivation and didn't give him any special treatment. Hopefully now he enters the last year of his deal, he will have the motivation to at least put some effort in.
