Bang on. If the league was settled on budget, they should all write it down on a piece of paper and not bother playing a game. It's a factor obviously but putting a proper footballing side of the business is the bigger issue. spot on That's why the focus on our reduced budget does not mean we are settling for 17th. The key (for clubs like us) is using the budget wisely and punching above your weight (see Stevenage, Northampton, Lincoln and of course Oxford in the end this season) Just hope we get a team and a style we can get fully behind and have a good home record and a handful of great away days! Then again we keep on being told until the Mem is redeveloped and the capacity increased to 16K+ we'll never be able to compete with the top 6 sides.

Not sure it’s ever been said like that but they have said if and when we do go up we need to be in a position on & off the pitch to stay there and even compete at that level. As no work is going to happen with the ground this coming season, I think it’s safe to assume promotion isn’t a target .

See, I don’t think it’s all down to budgets, of course it helps , but a well run club with a keen eye for recruitment, a good manager who gets the best out of his players can get promotion. 👍🏾 Bang on. If the league was settled on budget, they should all write it down on a piece of paper and not bother playing a game. It's a factor obviously but putting a proper footballing side of the business is the bigger issue. Reminds me of the famous Cruyff quote.

Although the top 3 sides in L1 this season are the best supported...

Although the top 3 sides in L1 this season are the best supported... Brentford spent 7 seasons in the Championship at Griffin Park on crowds averaging about 10,300 and then won promotion to the Premier League, despite having the fourth-lowest playing budget in the Championship, above only Preston, Rotherham and Burton.

I don't disagree, though competing in the Championship and being unable to get into the top 6 are two different things.

At the Q&A, Abdullatif clearly said they could buy promotion if they wanted to but it would be pointless as we'd be relegated the following season, clearly somebody forgot to tell Oxford!

I'm sure most of us would be happy competing for play offs in L1 but apart from the season the snake slithered off we havent been anywhere near.

In the last 11 seasons at this level, we've finished top half once. p*** poor really, but sadly the reality of where we are as a football club and where our ceiling is. Funnily enough the season just gone is one of our best L1 finishes in many years. Shows how poor it's been.

Not L1 but Sbarra to Donny and Stevens to Wimbledon seem like good moves. Reckon AFCW will be top 3 next season.

A trickle rather than a flood at the moment, but the transfers taking place so far are adding experience to our opponents.
May
League 1 transfers
Joe Rafferty [Portsmouth - Rotherham United] Free Jonson Clarke-Harris [Peterborough - Rotherham] Free Lee Gregory [Sheffield Wednesday - Mansfield] Free
Rotherham will have JCH, Nombe, Hugill and Eaves to choose from up front.

This will be the season when we will find out if George Friend’s vast experience will benefit the club sufficiently. Let’s hope George and the manager bring in the players to make real progress. Avoiding the usual catch up to a season would help as Rovers usually take a dozen games or so to get going!

Optimistic George will be a good person to have in the club in this role. Well respected and loads of contacts it would appear.

Is it naughty to want the first signing we get over the line to be a scouser? Don’t think they’ve been that bad for our club overall…a young Rickie Lambert type would be great!
