Bottom 6 budget ? Think he’s exaggerating a bit there….

Good luck to DC, I hope that it works out well for him. They’ll expect no more than promotion, so he’ll be under pressure from the start. This is a massive defining job for DC. I honestly think that he is a perfect fit for the tykes if he gets it right. Man management but be a fans manager also works for the tykes! Honestly if he gets next season right he will manage at a higher level. Over the last four seasons we (as in my tyke supporting wife) and myself have seen more of their games than gas games.

Oh wow, did not see that coming! Great opportunity for him. This is his real opportunity to manage at a higher level than L1/2 after turning down Leeds all those years ago. Good luck to him!! Spot on. It is a great opportunity. But it’s also a bit of a defining appointment for him. After us, Walsall, Port Vale and Cheltenham this appointment with a club who will demand to be among the top six is very different from the others. This is his chance and he needs to take it. No smaller club achieving well above what they should be doing. Fail here and he will be limited to league 2 or lower league 1 jobs. Pressure will be on. Good luck to him. UTG! He’s good enough for the job, great opportunity for him, but top 6 as you say will have to be from the very first kick to the very last kick of the season. Anything less they will change direction without hesitation. Will be a very different environment for him with everything from fans staff owners opponents the lot. Not nice to be promoted but have to be promoted. Another team to check the scores every week .

Really pleased for him. It is a big job and as good a job as he could probably have hoped for at this stage of his career.
The negative for him is that anything short of the play offs will be considered failure
The positive is that for the first time in league one, he will be backed with the kind of budget needed to challenge. Good luck to him.

Good luck to Darrell. Hope it goes well and wish him all the best. It's a great move for him.
It might seem a bit of a risky decision by the Barnsley board but DC has multiple promotions at various levels on his CV.
Anyway compared to the rumoured Wayne Rooney to Plymouth move, it's as safe as houses. That one is not going to end well.

Good luck to him. Yes. He will be backed but that’s why I think it’s his defining appointment. He has never recruited really well since he did it for us 10 years ago in readiness for the Conference. At Walsall he didn’t recruit much and what he did had an flavour of us about it. At PV he must have done some half decent signings which him and Crosby used to go up. But that was a whole different ball game to what he will have to do now. I’ve never considered recruitment as a strong point of DC. That needs to change. UTG!

Barnsley fans seem mostly very positive on their forum, think D/C is kind of man it is very easy to listen to and like, few doubters but even Gaschat has a few of them!

Well he survived a very challenging interview there - made me wonder if the interviewer had doubts of his capability to manage a team like Barnsley. Anyway good luck Darrell - hopefully we will see you in the play offs !

This job is too big for him given hes not really had any success since leaving us, the remit for him is playoffs minimum which would be his biggest career achievement.
I wonder if he'll be changing the team every week like he did with us. I love him to succeed but only really because i really dislike most clubs in our league more.
My feeling is that he'll be gone by Jan

DC deserves this chance at a promotion chasing team and unlike before will be well backed. You can see how excited he is in that short interview. I can see Barnsley being in the top two come the end of the season.

Anyone else pick up on the how mentioned his previous clubs and having to work with a bottom 6 budget Will be interesting to see how does with a bigger budget it does make you wonder what he would have done had he had a top 6 budget

Leeds wanted him when they had that mental owner that went through 50 managers. He was sensible not to pursue a move there. If Barnsley arent top 3 by Xmas he'll be gone cant see their fans jumping with ecstatic jubilation if he does get the job Bit like a lot of us Gas fans then when ( Mr dry) Taylor was announced. Hoping DC does well with Barnsley.

Mr Dry, if given the chance and time will change our club for the better. I don't mean promotion, I mean with the business model that we all know has to change for us to survive. For me, if the off field strategy is being delivered I would take a bottom half finish (maybe even a relegation). DC was telling us that things weren't right behind the scenes in 2018. DC, love the man to bits. He deserves all the success he wants. Any person that has faced the adversity that he has and come out the other side gets my respect. I only wish dark clouds and bad luck for him for two games next season.
