Not sure the bedlam on the blackthorn after that junior goal has ever been matched. We scared the crap out of them that night

Hopefully DC will take us back into the league this season, but if not and GJ's still out of a job ummm Clarke says he will take Rovers up this season, I hope he does and we move on with him at the helm. If DC fails, then I guess he will walk, or be pushed, enter Gary Johnson, worked ******* miracles at the village club in south somerset, got contacts all over the place, would be be a great addition to BRFC, subject to vacancy. UTG

UTG So what you are saying is should DC not meet his own target of promotion he should be fired? Surely it's a bit less cut and dry than that. We could go the rest of the season unbeaten, lose out on automatic promotion on goal difference, sail through the play-off semi and lose on penalties at Wembley after the ref had wrongly sent off one of our players in the 3rd minute of the game, and yet you would still think he should go?

UTG I think the actual quote (after game 3) was "we will finish in the top 5". We all though that was hilarious at the time. Obviously, the aim now has to be automatic promotion - I would hope that any top 6 club has exactly the same aim. Gary Johnson has failed 3 times and succeeded 3 times. DC has succeeded 3 times (Salisbury) and been blamed for one failure although based on his comments at the Q&A session in August, JW simply ignored his suggestions, so I don't blame him for the relegation.

I hope DC stays whatever happens. He's the first decent manager we've had since Trollope and the manic hiring and firing since then has been our undoing IMO. We need a consistent approach and if that takes a little patience then let it be so.

I'd probably put Francis part 1 in place of Trollope though Would have been Ollie apart from his tendency to blow up just when we looked like achieving things. I liked PT but once Lennie had gone he seemed well out of his depth. A nice guy though.

Nobody is saying DC should be sacked in the unlikely event that we are not promoted. However if we do miss out and GJ is available I am sure his name will be echoing around this forum.

And he did take us to a final and up to League One and stay there, until the BoD panicked when we touched the relegation zone mid-season. That's how I remember it anyway. But anyway, I think DC needs time to build a proper long-term approach. I don't want to see us having to start all over again next season if we miss out on promotion by a goal or two.

First thing he would do is scrap the academy.

PT only did that with LL holding his hand, once NH realised LL was spending too much money on the likes of Duffy & Blizzard and so gave him the boot we became a sinking ship, to suggest we'd stay up if PT hadn't been sacked shows what short memories fans have. As far as next season is concerned if we don't go up and then fail at the first hurdle in the Play Offs will fans, and perhaps more importantly the BoD, be happy to give DC another chance? Not sure I will as anything other than a trip to Wembley & /or promotion would seem like a failure to me from the present we're in at present. I can't see fans rushing to buy season tickets if we're still in the Conference with DC in charge.

I guess we should stick to our tried and trusted strategy of having a new manager every season. It's certainly taken us into new territory. Who knows - we may discover divisions that no-one knew existed, deep in the bowels of the Earth.
Maybe we should appoint Jules Verne as Director of Football.

Problem is a manager's fate is sealed by the support he gets from the fans, as I said I just see fans rushing to buy ST's if we've lost to FGR/Eastleigh etc without even getting to Wembley., as that would seem to me as bad as last season's relegation, I'd need something to encourage me to watch another season of Conference football.
Having said that we've still got all to play for this season.
