I am not so sure Birmingham City will find Division1 a walkover and have an immediate Championship return. Big clubs like Sunderland, Bolton, Portsmouth, Ipswich etc, found the league tough!!

The jury still out ill judge the man by where we sit in the table come Christmas. Yeah totally , he didn’t send us in to free fall when he joined unlike the way Barton did when he joined even though we could tell that he wasn’t particularly happy with the squad he inherited in many ways. He actually took us higher in the table with Barton’s squad than Barton had so in my opinion that’s a decent start especially considering the take over , losing most of the back room staff etc But now the slate is wiped clean and it’s Taylor’s Bristol Rovers squad, staff , everything. Personally I’ve got a good feeling about him, I doubt he’ll get us promotion because let’s face it our budget is probably around mid table but I think he’s got enough about him to keep us around mid table perhaps pushing for a play off spot. We’d all love promotion but demanding promotion would be like the shi}heads demanding Premier league it could happen, one great season you’re there but there’s no god given right and complaining if we don’t achieve it would just be embarrassing.

We’ll see but I certainly think he deserves a chance considering how he’s done so far and how some of our great managers started out. Just thinking Gerry Francis another one perhaps ? I’m old enough to remember the promotion season 2nd May 1990 but before that is vague I think he was there a season or two around mid table before that ?

MT can continue to be as dull as dish water for all I care so long as he gets us playing passionately and winning! We were good today for first 25 mins and closed down well but still not a lot being created in final third. See how we do v Cobblers !

My concern was the number of times players with the ball would put their arms out in frustration because no one had run into a position to receive a forward pass. Given these players have only had limited time together let's hope this is only a short term issue

We'll get nowhere without somebody to put the ball in the net, LM had an easy chance to make it 2-1 yesterday and so potentially get a draw but failed to score. If Sotiriou doesn't make it on Saturday we're relying upon Omochere, Sinclair and Thomas to score.

You could look back and say 86-87 was the catalyst. Not going down, blooding young players and being able to sell players like Scales, Morgan and Carr to survive till the next season. At that time we had Jocky, Joner, Yatesy, Twentyman, Percy, Boris and Penny. I doubt anyone would say we would win promotion in a few years when we went to Newport that season needing a win to stay up!

Sunderland, possibly in part due to Kenny Hibbitt's injury, galvanised the club. We didn't really look back for many a season. A 'what if' is would signing Dennis Bailey have made a difference to the Port Vale play off games. What happened the following season more than made up for it.

Aargh the early 80's don't remind me. How good was our main squad of 15 players? If (the biggest word) the play offs or the EFL trophy equivalent came in two seasons earlier, we would have been an established "Championship" side imo. We lost 2-1 at Dean Court with a few reserve/squad players in what would have been the area final, having beaten them 3 times in the league and league cup (two legs in those days) and if we had gone up we wouldn't have had to sell our best players on the cheap. Even before money came into football it was only out of necessity that Slats went for £70k, Archie £20k, Georgie £40k, D Williams £40k and Randell for £5k and others like Parking and White went for relative peanuts. I think I can remember the fees pretty much and the replacements were no where as good. I digress, Taylor is probably looking to get as high up the league as he can but it is next season 25-26 we are gonna go for it imo.

Anyway, I hope the new board give him more time that Raith's manager.
Got them to the plays off last season but the got hammered 6-1 on aggregate apparently.
Played one game this season, lost 1-0 yesterday, so sacked today!

MT came in last season with a challenging situation, inherited JB's players and staff, including the scouse mafia, and managed it well. I am happy that MT is not a badge kissing, fist pumping, type of manager. If we win, let the players take the credit. Let him do the speaking in post match interviews where it seems to me he comes across as honest and knowledgeable. I certainly prefer the style of MT to the 'its all about me' style of JB. MT has done a good job in pre-season with GF and others, in completely changing the squad. From the matches I have watched we have a lot more pace this season so pressing might actually work - clearly didn't last term as we didn't have the players who were able and/or willing to play that style. Clearly it will take several weeks for a new team to gel, but the signs have been good. I am even happy that we lost a couple so that we don't go into the season thinking nothing needs fixing. So lets get behind MT and the team and look forward to a winning start next Saturday.

Yes doesn’t look to bad , I was very young so don’t remember so well going back that far, and there was no play offs then, you also conveniently missed 86/87/88. But yea, you’re right ,we were slightly better than I was saying , slightly 😉
