0-2.
About right.
This was another good choice for the pre season. Two good workouts this week.
First Team is not easy to identify.
Midfield competition is strong.
Starters and finishers this season.
When CM and RS are also available we will be a better balanced side.
We ought to copy Cardiff's attacking approach. They attack using the zig-zag passing formation. Around the box they play soft and deft flicks to well timed runners. While we try to set up the perfect chance for other teammates they shoot on sight.
Today. They scored two top corner crackers.
Their keeper was top class and their little midfield player was superb.
Not disappointed. Bring on The Cobblers.

Well that’s the friendly’s out of the way, no disgrace today, beaten by a better side & 2 cracking goals, hopefully we’ve haven’t picked up any injuries & can now prepare for next Saturday’s opener against Northampton, should be a cracker with the latter kickoff time ,after fans had an afternoon in the various watering holes before the game.

Watched from the armchair, first thing to say we probably will not come up against any team of the quality Cardiff have in our league?
Its a friendly not nice to lose a game this close to the start of the season, but has to be taken into context of what it was, the lads have had a hard weeks training no doubt, plus two games against higher teams in the league structure seams we've come through this with no fitness worries which is a massive bonus?
Looks though we have our fair share on promising players who require time to find each other's game, two stand outs for me and in no way meant as a moan just an observation, we need to start commanding our box and we need to be more potent up front in and around the opposition's box, hopefully it will all come together, I'm looking forward to the journey and watching steady improvement, no expectation from me other than I have a funny feeling we will go on the beat our position of last season.

Northampton lost 2-0 to Cheltenham so I doubt they will be arriving full of confidence

Having gone to watch Cheltenham today as part of our quest to do the 92. We have nothing to worry about , Northampton were 2nd best all over the pitch. Eaves , McGheeheen were ok the rest were terrible. Snake even missed a late pen. Even Ryan bowman who averages a goal almost every 10 scored 2. Utg . Also Jordan Thomas from bath looked good when he came on .

Sounds like we start the season almost injury free!
That’s a massive bonus.
Me and the boy have tickets for both Cobblers and Cardiff, can’t wait to get behind these new lads and I’m quietly confident we can hold our own this campaign. If we can add a couple more attacking faces to the squad it will really push us on

Thought Shaw, ( who had a terrific box to box game against Plymuff ) did well again, in the short period of time he was on the pitch. Didn`t put a foot wrong, that I could see. I`d be disappointed if he wasn`t involved in the game, next Sat.

Went to the game today. I was very impressed by a Cardiff side that had a lot of quality players. I don't think many L1 sides will be able to handle our press in the same way Cardiff did.
I'm looking forward to what I expect to be a good season.

Is Martin not allowed to be involved in any friendly games? Bit harsh if that’s the case as it doesn’t come off his 4 match ban… sincs off for shaw. Was injured how is he now ? still injured ?

how is he now ? still injured ? Given that he's not figured in any recent pre-season games you can only assume he's still not fully fit, although he did make the Portuguese training camp.

Some times it's psychological, or there is no good reason for it, but our opening day record is shocking. Not won for years and then we didn't win for a while before that! I would rather be playing Birmingham, then as least we get it out of the way!

Or will the Trialist be given another chance? Could say the same about Shaw. From what I saw on Tuesday, I`d say that Shaw has already taken his chance. He deserves to stay in the squad on merit. One of the better substitutions when he came on, a diamond in the rough, my guess as player of the season from this new squad.

Just an opinion I’ve not seen elsewhere. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of spring in Griffiths. The header he tipped on to the bar and the Ramsey goal he barely got off the ground. He’s been fantastic don’t get me wrong it was just something I noticed.
And no not a moaner, maybe being harsh, just something to keep an eye on, be interesting to see when teams put balls on top of him rather than the pretty patterns we’ve been facing.
BUT he looks the best keeper we’ve had for a while.

Given the whole management structure and players are virtually new I can't see how psychological can play a part, unless MT & co are going to spend all week studying our previous opening day results. The bigger concern is the lack of fire power upfront which we don't seem to have addressed over the summer, with Martin out we're just left with a direct replacement in Omochere, who's hardly been a prolific goal scorer in the past.

What's more worrying is how many saves he's had to make in the last couple of matches.

Isnt the stat something ridiculous like 4 in 14? That plays a big part plus we usually seem to have tough starts away, Ipswich, Portsmouth, Peterborough etc in recent years.

I doubt it matters when we play the first home game, or who play, or who we have played the week before, we always seem to struggle for some odd reason.
Perhaps that gypsy(?) who apparently put a curse on the pitch did it one summer!

Perhaps that gypsy(?) who apparently put a curse on the pitch did it one summer! Derby and Birmingham were both, allegedly cursed by Romani Gypsies - they had both forced the travellers to move camp to build their grounds. Don Revie was also paranoid that Leeds were under a gypsy curse. However, I wasn't aware that Rovers were. I think it is just that we've been pretty crap in too many seasons.
