I doubt it matters when we play the first home game, or who play, or who we have played the week before, we always seem to struggle for some odd reason. Perhaps that gypsy(?) who apparently put a curse on the pitch did it one summer! Derby and Birmingham were both, allegedly cursed by Romani Gypsies - they had both forced the travellers to move camp to build their grounds. Don Revie was also paranoid that Leeds were under a gypsy curse. However, I wasn't aware that Rovers were. I think it is just that we've been pretty crap in too many seasons. I though Holloway said something about a curse, or was that just typical Holloway talking nonsense? I'm not sure it true we fail to win our first home game as we're poor as we've had plenty of promotions over the last decade or so. We just never seem to start the season strongly.

He did, but pretty sure it was 'Olly BS.
I'm really not sure what to expect next week as we've got a vastly changed squad that may take time to 'gel'. We still seem a bit toothless up front and hopefully Martin and Soutiriou can get fit soon to add more of a goal threat.

Perhaps that gypsy(?) who apparently put a curse on the pitch did it one summer! To rid us of the curse may I suggest a ceramic frog above the entrance, potted plants in the dressing room and a tank of toy fish behind the goal. Oh, sorry. Someones already tried that

Now watch us loseš¤£. Northampton don't worry me, but the fact it's the opening day does! Some times it's psychological, or there is no good reason for it, but our opening day record is shocking. Not won for years and then we didn't win for a while before that! I would rather be playing Birmingham, then as least we get it out of the way! Given the whole management structure and players are virtually new I can't see how psychological can play a part, unless MT & co are going to spend all week studying our previous opening day results. The bigger concern is the lack of fire power upfront which we don't seem to have addressed over the summer, with Martin out we're just left with a direct replacement in Omochere, who's hardly been a prolific goal scorer in the past. We've had many managers and teams during that time, but the record has remained. Some clubs have gone 20+ years without winning at grounds, for no explainable reason. Hopefully we can end the run, but people will be aware.

There's more to not winning at grounds, for example we hardly win at Pompey or Posh but that's down to them usually having better teams. It seems whoever we play in our first home game we struggle.
