At the start of last season we started off with one NO 9, Marquis who had scored 11 goals the previous season , this season we have according to Matt Taylor three players that can play in that position and between them at this level last season they got over 32 goals, so I think we do have the players to get the goals but they need time to gel, and unfortunately two Martin and Sotiriou have missed pre- season with injuries. I agree that a fourth striker maybe required perhaps on loan , but i think we also need to be patient and see how we fair when all three are fit. We certainly have allot of quality forwards in our side and I am looking forward to watching them, when they are all fit, I Suspect the 9 and 10 slots will be shared between Sotiriou, Martin and Omachere . How many of those 32 goals were scored by Martin and is he going to repeat that feat this season?

A loan with little experience is utterly pointless..we have a few permanents players of our own who can score goals but reasons given above by others are exactly why we would have to spend some cash to bring in someone who will be the main man. The loan market has served us well recently though? Elliot Anderson, Harvey Vale, Connor Taylor. Even Brandon Aguilera would have been class had he had a full season to gel with us. If we can get a very highly rated young striker from one of the top academies in the last few weeks of the window then it’s probably worth waiting for, we’re just feeling a bit short up top at the moment with Sotiriou injured and Chris Martin lacking fitness. We aren't going to find another Anderson. We were lucky Barton was friendly with LuaLua who recommended him. He was a 1 in a million player, way way above league 2 level. A goal scorer who going to get you 15 plus cost £££.

Could get 2 or 3 options abroad of a similar or better quality for the reported £500k we spent on Omochere. I maintain that to get the best value for money and marginal gains on our competitors we will need to expand our scouting operations further afield and not fish in the same limited pond. If bargains can be signed from aboard then why is no other L1 teams doing it, including Posh just because players look good on YouTube doesn't mean they are going to perform in L1. The club have done well to put together what seems a decent recruitment team in a few months, expecting them to put one together which beats most other L1 clubs is expecting too much. www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c0w46v6qyy5o.amp

Comes with more risks though. Still, would be good for us to take a punt on someone from overseas. Would you say it looks like a generally good transfer window so far, all things considered? Lost our best player for below market value and overpaid for Omochere in my opinion. Been a few decent signings, but ultimately I'm not convinced there is enough goals in the squad (and concerns about same old defensive fragility).

Been saying this for 4 or 5 seasons now Just beat me to it Yatton. He beat us all to it! It’s been the common theme in all transfer windows. 😉 UTG!

The problem is pirate that our Scouting network do not have the option to try all your 300 recommendations and have to pretty well get recruitment right. If you were in their position which one of your recommendations would you put your money on although remembering it is their job which is on the line.

I've said a few times I would have made approaches to the 22-year-old 6ft 2in former Barcelona, Valencia and Spain youth international striker Jordi Escobar who is available on a free transfer. From what I understand he was only earning a few hundred quid last season, so hardly likely to break the bank. Well schooled, good size, good age, leads the line well with the attributes to do well in this country, but also with room for improvement and a sell-on value. Edit: Just seen Escobar signed for Celta Vigo u23 side a few days ago, but there are other good value and similarly talented players with good pedigree out there if we spread our net wider. Leonardo Vonic, Christian Shpendi, Antonio Casas, Karol Czubak and Alex Tamm etc etc among a number of good options potentially within our wage budget if fees could be agreed. I'd also enquire with Notts County about how much they would be willing to accept for Alassana Jatta, although I do realise that would be difficult to get done with them already allowing Langstaff to leave this summer.

Wes - do you think it's a failure of scouting that we have ended up paying half a million for a player when he (or his equivalent) could have been recruited from the LOI or non-league for far less?

It's a lot of money, but there is potential there and only time will tell if it is money well spent or not. Fingers crossed for him. I think it's fair to say our recruitment and scouting have left a lot to be desired for a number of years, at least the ownership and management have acknowledged that fact and have now put some sort of structure in place. Again, ultimately time will tell how successful we are.

Again, ultimately time will tell how successful we are. This seems a fair assessment. I am encouraged with the recruitment team signs so far, they have only had a few months to make a plan and execute it with 12 or more players required. So "safer" to go for known targets, and maybe over pay a bit. Hopefully we finally see some long term stability and can build to a much more sustainable and successful recruitment operation over many windows to come.

Good points! I’m hopeful we have a loan agreed waiting for parent club to complete their preseason? Hopefully Coburn?! Me Too Percy - I was a big fan of Coburn. Exactly what we need in this formation.

I think we could be quite lucky and have some decent youngsters coming through - Jed, Kofi in around the set up now and Dewsbury and Edwards could be in the frame in the next few years.
Not necessarily forwards but that could save the club some money on transfer fees and agents.

We do need another. I'm optimistic on what we have through.
I think Promise will prove a hit. However I admit there is a small doubt that'll reach what we'll require this season. I suspect it could take him 6 months. For league one he "has a bit of everything" but needs to find his on "personality." By that mean- the positions and scenarios on the pitch where he excels.
I reiterate I have faith in Promise becoming a top league one player but it would be foolish to not have one more this season. I think Josh Corburn would be my first choice. Two dynamic powerful CFs would allow us to rotate. Means our "pressing game" doesn't fall apart after one injury.

Martin and Omochere could/should get 25-30 goals between them? If Sotiriou, Hutchinson, Thomas, Sinclair, McCormick and Shaw can all contribute then we may have enough. BUT injuries and players like Thomas and McCormick need to step up with goals scored they havent managed yet. Ideally, one more goal scorer and a young winger (with Brown heading out)

Pacey goal scoring strikers are always going to be the hardest one to land. I’m very happy with our business so far, agree we need another striker, but not concerned about it taking a few more weeks.
Edit: I completely forgot about Sitroiu (gonna need to learn the spelling), let’s hope he gets back fit as he is that striker!
