Blackburn Rovers 4 v 2 Derby County
After this defeat last night Derby County boss Paul Warne told BBC Radio Derby:
"In the second half we had a right go, scored a goal and I fancied us. We were on top and I made the mistake of probably not making my subs quick enough.
"I think the turning point was that they made changes and brought on fresh legs - and outstanding fresh legs."
Here's hoping we approach the season ahead with a rugby union mentality.
In the egg chasers game they talk of starters and finishers.
We have a strong and energetic squad of athletic midfielders this season.
If we utilise a squad of 16 wisely instead of looking for a best 11 we will probably do better.
It is also important to take on board Warne's Warning. Fresh legs early.

Just sorting out which old shirt to wear today, then hanging scarf out of window and attaching sons flag somewhere.
Winding old drive from sunny Dorset, the boy is full of optimism and woke up singing goodnight Irene. That cheered me up.
Not expecting miracles this campaign, just a team prepared to graft for the famous shirt, a team to watch grow and develop and maybe surprise a few big boys. We won’t go up so we will need to dig deep during poor spells. Get behind ‘em boys and girls! Turn up that famous gas roar today and show these newbies what being a gashead really is about!!

With the high press game it looks like MT has installed, I think we'll see a fair few subs come on around the 60 minute mark, especially in the early part of the season when players are still working on match fitness. Will keep all the subs happier too, knowing they'll get substantial minutes. |

Luke Thomas not playing? Am I missing something - DH in the Evening Post has also left him out of the squad. Will be hugely disappointed if Thomas and Taylor are not regular starters under MT this season. Madness if he leaves these two out, especially Thomas! |

A few interesting facts (obtained from the BBC page)
Bristol Rovers have lost just one of their last 11 league games against Northampton Town (W7 D3), though that came in their last such clash in February earlier this year (3-1).
Northampton Town have won just one of their last 13 away league games against Bristol Rovers (D3 L9), a 1-0 win on the opening day of the 2015-16 League Two season.
Bristol Rovers haven’t won on MD1 of a Football League season since 2011-12 against AFC Wimbledon (3-2); their 11-game winless run on the opening day in the top four tiers since (D2 L9) is the longest ongoing such streak of any side in the EFL.
This will be the first time that Northampton Town have begun a league season away from home since August 2017 when they were defeated 1-0 by Shrewsbury Town.

I'd be seriously watered off if this ends up 1 1 I'd love a win, but historically we hardly ever so have tempered my optimism, we need to get behind the team and create an atmosphere, which was lacking as we ended the season. |

Just listened to having a Gas , where the manager confirms we’re operating with the same budget as the season before . Not a 25% reduction as some claimed .
