I quite like the look of most of the players we’ve signed so far , so on that basis I’m happy to trust the judgement of Friend & Taylor and give this lad a chance

People commenting about posters whinging regarding this signing don't understand football.
If you don't have strikers that can score goals you get relegated.
We currently have less than 20 goals scored last season in league one between our fit strikers. That will get you relegated. It's happened to us far too many times before that I care to remember. It doesn't matter how good our backline is if we dont get a proven goalscorer through the door we get relegated.
So it's not people whinging it's people worrying about history repeating itself.

Give the lad a chance before you tear into him Where have I tore into him? I've said this isn't a signing a side wishing to establish themselves at the right end of league one should be making. Especially one struggling for goals. That type of transfer business will get us relegated as history has proved. I wish him the best of luck and hope he can get a few goals to cover for Chris Martin but everything is pointing otherwise.

You kind of have a point, but more often than not when we sign players with lots of good goal stats, they dont work out. Marquis and (to some extend) Pitman recently, but loads of examples. More often than not our top scorers have made their name here, not come here with great expectations. Collins for example recently, too many to name in the past. i am worried too, but signg Gayle or similar might not be the answer either. All we can do for now is back the team on a match day!

He’s young and Oxford must have seen something in him to give him a long term deal at 18. People going on about only 2 goals n 50 need to get real. Oxford wouldn’t be loaning him if he was banging them in every other game. We need a striker he needs games what’s the worst that can happen.

Goals are important but to win three points you only need to score one more than your opponent. Not great entertainment but solid maths... I only mention it as in 92/93 and 2000/01 (both relegation seasons) we scored more than we did in the 2006/7 promotion season.

It’s not as black and white as this though is it? Just because a player scored lots of goals at a previous club doesn’t mean they’ll score lots of goals for us and vice versa… look at Matty Taylor, JCH, Aaron Collins - all didn’t have prolific stats prior to joining us and they then ended up Top Scorers for us and core players… for a premier league example look at Torres who banged them in for fun at Liverpool but struggled at Chelsea…. Football is a team game and it’s about partnerships, the way the whole team operate together and are on the same wavelength and about the way / style the team play… yes the forwards need certain attributes to be successful but it isn’t about the previous goal return stats on paper… You then look at positions previous players played and it isn’t unheard of that different managers see different things in players and look to convert them… Promise was more of a wide forward at Fleetwood rather than central and therefore his goal opportunities would be lower…. We like his pace, physicality and strength and hold up play so we see him more central and are looking to convert him to a more traditional 9…. Previously we had Carl Saunders who was a right back at Stoke and we converted him to become a very successful Centre Forward who played well off of big Devon White and Devon wasn’t considered the most skilful and look at what we did with Gareth Taylor, converted him from a Centre Back to a strong Centre Forward who played well with Marcus Stewart. Lastly 2 in 50 in League 1 games at face value sounds disappointing but when you then see 42 of those appearances were as sub where he often only had 10mins or less means in reality he’s not had much on pitch time and he’s still scored 2 goals…. Albeit at a lower level, he had an almost 1 goal in 2 ratio which is more promising and haven’t we all been saying we should be looking to getting the best talent from the lower leagues as that’s where the greatest value is? Who knows what the terms of his loan deal is - maybe we might be able to get him on a perm next summer? What is more attractive - 2 players who score 15 goals apiece in a season or 2 players where one scores 20 and the other 10 because of the partnership working? So my view is that it’s those people who are slagging this signing off without having watched the player play, without understanding how he’ll fit into the team or what his role will be and basing their decision purely on a football stats page who are being shortsighted…. Just my opinion……

Appears to be an impact player and I can see him coming on in the 2nd half after Promise has given his all (and hopefully scored a goal)
