He’s young and Oxford must have seen something in him to give him a long term deal at 18. People going on about only 2 goals n 50 need to get real. Oxford wouldn’t be loaning him if he was banging them in every other game. We need a striker he needs games what’s the worst that can happen. 2 in 70? 😂 Let’s give him a chance, he hasn’t kicked a ball for us yet ! 🤔💙utg

An Oxford supporting pal of mine, good knowledge of football, likes Gatlin and wishes he had stayed. My fingers remain crossed.

Strange one this but could work out. Seen him play plenty of times. Big physical lad who is not the most technical gifted footballers in the world. He always did well going through the Academy age groups but this was because he just used to run through people and leather it! Saw him play at Barnet last season in the same game Greenslade played for Oxford City. They both scored that day but very different players. More of a 9 Fox in the box player than anything else and will give centre backs a hard time but needs more to his game as only seem him affective when running towards Goal. Time will tell and it could be good if given the chances. Thanks gassedOut. IMHO, the most informative post thus far. Great that playing regularly at Barnet, he has played "mans" football, but interestingly normally played only 60/65 minutes and only played 90 mins once. One goal every 131 mins for a team that finished second in NL and most likely an impact sub. For those interested, this link shows the data and highlight clips of each game, so people can judge for themselves. thefishy.co.uk/team-results.php?team=Barnet&season=21UTG [br Watched the highlights. Appears to have a tidy left foot and presses well.

But….. if 14 other teams in our league have a bigger budget it doesn’t mean a lot What 14 teams ?. Rotherham have said " we can't match Gas wages ". Barnsley said " we can't afford Gas fees on promise ". Managers are saying " we spent money ". I accept we are not a Brum or Bolton . Reading between the lines we are competing with clubs around play offs . Taylor been giving a budget in top 8 IMO. Apart from the top 6 no other club has spent anywhere near what Rovers have on transfer fees in the last two transfer windows. Although no other club would spend £500K on Omochere, we could have easily got two good strikers for that type of money!

O'Donker will be cover for Omochere, so I wish both of the all the best for a successful season. We spent over a million on transfer fees, so you would expect to see an improvement this season, but fans are forgetting that sky paid an additional 61 million to the EFL,for additional live coverage this season, that works out as an average of over 800,000 per club, Championship clubs will get a bigger cut, but it does mean that all league clubs will have more money, some may use it to pay off debts others to spend more on the squad, so although we have spent more money, things are relative and some of our competitors will have done the same.

I really hope he smashes it but I don’t like this at all. If he’s excellent he slots straight back in at Oxford & we’ve ONCE AGAIN developed another clubs talent. If he flops, we’ve sold ourselves short on a loan player. We've basically signed Oxford's equivalent of Greenslades! We may as well have kept him for another season to see if he could make the grade.

Maybe, maybe not. With Wycombe offering over half a million and even Crawley offering 6 figure sums for players, we still might not stay up. The worth of a regular goalscorer cannot be underestimated and thats why they usually cost ££s unless you have a decent scouting network which I doubt we have...yet!

It only becomes clear after the season. I know many have given opinions as to what it may be but I’ve read, as you have, what Barnsley and Rotherham have said but I also remember some on here talking about a 25% cut. In the end who knows? Looking at our recruitment I’d have said the budget was matching that of others, but that’s a guess. I have no accurate idea. All I can do is trust GF etc. have scouted wisely and MT has decided on decent players. As ever, time will tell. UTG!

And let’s face it Steve E says something about being outspent I don’t know whether to laugh out loud or just wonder at his latest porkie. UTG!

I can't recall Greenslade ever having 8 goal contributions in 13 games, at national League level? He didn't do as good as that at that level or the level below. I'm still hoping we sign a more experienced striker. But his stats at the end of last season are okay and a lot better than Harvey's. At the moment, it definitely looks like we will struggle for goals.

Very strange that we hadn’t gone for a proven striker and feel for promise a bit, he’s got the weight on his shoulders to deliver goals.

As to the main point: Welcome Gatlin, do your best, give 100% and score some goals and you will be a hero. Then everyone can have a moan about you not being ours and being afraid you’ll go back to Oxford!!
Against the flow, but I like signings of youngsters who’ve got potential, the kind we used to be good at making.
Good luck Gatlin.
UTG!

This player might be to cover Martin until January. If we are playing with two strikers, we need 4 for strikers.

So last season, our league goalscorers were
Martin - 16 Evans - 6 Thomas - 5 Marquis - 4 Collins - 3 Hunt -3
Total 52. Basically an after the deadline signing kept us up.
Are we worse off this year? I'd expect a more equal distribution of goals but would hope to see (even without any more signings)
Martin - 9 or 10 Omochere - 8 Soturiou - 5-6 Hutch - 5-6 O'Donkor - 5-6 Thomas - 4-5 Sinclair - 4-5 Shaw - 4-5 Bilongo/Moore/Ward/Garrett chipping in with 3.
Need to create more. Think we have enough goals in the team to surpass 52.
