Last time I went to Barnsley was in the FA Cup (4th rnd) I believe. Lost 4-1 Then about two hours to get out of the car park if I remember rightly... The most exciting part of the day for me - as a 10 yr old - was seeing the Tottenham team bus on the way back down the motorway. I distinctively remember seeing David Ginola in the window.

I was there that day. Pi**ed down with rain if I remember and the away end didn't have a roof then. Got battered, remember Jamie shore playing well though. My memories since of Barnsley away are guaranteed defeat. If we picked up 3 points here I really would start to believe. Snap your hands off for a point though. I didn’t have away tickets so sat with Home fans with my son, keeping my West Country accent low key. At 4-0 Barnsley fans sung “it’s like watching Brazil.” We can beat them this time. I have the programme for that game in front of me, our team was: Lee Jones, Dave Pritchard, Trevor Challis, Rob Trees, Steve Foster, Mike Trought, Ian Holloway, David Lee, Michael Meaker, Jamie Cureton and Jason Roberts. Gary Penrice was one of our subs. We sat in the old wooden stand. Don't remember much about the game, but we had real difficulties finding a pub prepared to serve us anywhere near the ground and ended up sitting on a wall drinking cans from an Indian corner shop

Gary Penrice still lives local too and is often on the golf course but only when the sun is out!

Very interested to see how we play without Conteh available. As great as he is at his role, he gives us almost nothing going forward. I would love to see someone who steps in and is not afraid to pick out a pass and get us out on the front foot to attack.

With Lindsay likely to be still missing Garrett seems the obvious choice to replace Conteh? Who replaces him in midfield is the more intriguing decision out of Hutchinson or McCormick.

Think he’ll go for Hutch .

I think we will draw 1-1, goal in the first 20 mins then hang on until the 70-80 mark when we’ll concede.
I’d be delighted with this result as it would indicate progress. Win at home and draw away will get you promotion!

Chelsea, Real Madrid and France wouldn’t have swapped Claude Makelele for anyone - a defensive midfielders inability dribble past people, make defence splitting passes and ping goals in from all angles only really gets noticed and mentioned when the attacking players are failing to deliver what they are paid to deliver !!

That`s why we bought him. His job is to break up opposition attacks, and then give the ball to someone more attacking minded and creative.

Just the one change for me - Hutchinson in for Conteh and drop Ward a bit deeper again. Conteh will be a big miss but I am confident we can get a point up there, especially as Northampton also have already this season. I think Mola can be used in Conteh's role. Seems to like a tackle.

If it came to this, I'd rather see Moore in DM and bring Connor into RCB. That said, our midfield depth is pretty good so I'd expect to see Garrett playing the main pivot and Ward/Macca alongside him. Conteh is a huge miss but I back our defence and that wonderful goalkeeper to keep it close. 1-1 I feel, a bit of a slug of a game but I'd happily take a point away to the Tykes. As Neno/Max aptly put it on Gascast - "our season won't be judged by our results away to Rotherham, Barnsley etc. but we'll look back at the end of the season and say 'that was a good point'".

Why won't our season be judge on those away results, as if we don't start picking up points at likely top 8 sides we'll never make progress up the table.

interesting to read Griffiths stats. Have you seen who is topping the League 2 goalies? A guy called Belshaw. good to see him doing well again

He was a decent keeper, and a real character. Wish he was still here. Would be a perfect number 2 and has a real soft spot for Ward. Still someone’s ego got in the way

So despite all the signings you’d have to think the team more or less picks itself
Griff Moore Wilson Mola LT Ward Garrett ? Bilongo Ruel Promise
Hutch v Macca it seems as Shaq isn’t ready for a start according to MT. I’d like to give Macca an opportunity in a 3.
