I don't want us to be 18th in the league, certainly after the backing of the summer... I find this an interesting comment and one that might turn out to be unfair. You are assuming that MT has a bigger budget due to paying fees for players over the summer. What some are not taking into consideration is the wages. We had a pretty high wage bill in the previous season. As an example and there is no basis of truth in this, its just an example. AC was on £6k per week (just as an example, I have no idea what he was on). We then buy Promise for £500k on a 3 year plus one contract, so over 4 years. That is £125k a year on his transfer fee or £2.4k a week. If the wages for Promise are £3k per week then we are paying £5.4k per week which is actually less that what we were paying for AC last season. A saving of £0.6k per week, £31.2k per year and £124.8k over 4 years. Of course, we will never know what the players are earning each week and we don't have a right to know. However, when we talk about the manager being backed, we can't just assume that because we paid a fee we are paying more for that player. We could be paying less overall. Fair. Even still, if the manager has gone out and recruited 12? players and paid large fees for a few of them, that is being backed. The opposite being scratching around for OOC players who nobody wants or just want a payday. AC was worth about £60 a week last year anyway so money saved is a positive. This manager has been backed, no doubt about that. I would guess we are in the top 10 for fees and contracts offered out.

Before the season started, most sensible Gasheads would have said that with the sheer amount of players we’ve signed and the profile of most of those players being young improvers, it would take a few months for the team to gel. We’d clearly bought with the long game in mind. If like me, you still hold this view a couple of months into the season, then 13 points from 10 is perfectly acceptable. Yes, 13 from 10 is acceptable. Iirc Burton and Rotherham were the other teams who had a big influx of players during the window. I’m sure someone will know the exact numbers each club recruited in the summer but of those who had the biggest change none appear to have had a flying start. Did Birmingham have a large turn around? I didn’t think they did but may be wrong. They are doing well. It’s an acceptable start but amongst the September defeats were some very poor performances. I would suggest MT is still trying to find out how to play Luke Thomas who is our best player imo but whose performances so far haven’t shown that. It may be that the best team we have doesn’t include our best payer! Others I’m sure will disagree. And of course he will be trying to get some consistency into our performances. Trying to create a team with so many new players must take take time and we’ll get better as the season progresses. Fingers crossed. UTG!

Also what is our net spend? Collins, Evans and Hoole all had fees paid for them. Did we get a fee for Hoole ? I didn’t know that 😮 We were due one because he was a home grown player. The fee was agreed between the clubs rather than a tribunal.

Thanks Fetch So joint most wins after 10 games then.... not all that bad. I don't want us to be 18th in the league, certainly after the backing of the summer... You’re right but I don’t suppose anyone does do they? And it is very close isn’t it? 3 points cover 6th to 18th position so we’re talking about fine margins, as ever. An extra win or even a draw and we may not be having this conversation. But you are right, we are 18th. UTG!

Burton apparently signed 22 players and also apparently changed their style of play from Wycombe's approach to BG's possession approach, I'd be surprised if that works for a team like Burton, it seems their fans feel the same looking at this attendance on Saturday. Rotherham players not only have to contend with a lot of new faces but also Steve Evans as manager, personally I feel he's totally over rated but Pirate clearly rates him over MT.

MT said in a recent interview he has a similar budget to last season? If Sortiriou is really on 40% more than Orient were paying him we're clearly good payers, I can't also see PC wouldn't be offered a decent contract if we've paid a £500K transfer fee. We're probably mid table to top 10 budget wise and top 8(?) for transfer fees paid.

This league is so tight from 5-18th. 2 wins from being top 6 2 losses from being in the bottom 4. It's proper bipolar in terms of we'll be ok one week but going down the next. So far, as has been pointed out, we're in better nick in terms of points on the board than we have been in the last few years after 10 games. What would be proper funny if MT took us on a bit of a run of wins right after the boo boys wanted him out at Wycombe and turned up to chant again last Tuesday. 1 win (with a big GD swing, or a win and a draw) surely?

We could have played Charlton and Burton as our first 2 games and been sat top of the league. Regardless, our play is generally poor and over the course of the season, we are destined to finish in the bottom half unless thongs improve. Hopefully the wins give our young and newly formed team some confidence to be brave. Likewise the manager who appears stiff as a board. A couple of wins should give him some swagger and belief. I fear that well get properly unpicked by the next semi decent outfit we face though..

That's just destined for an employment tribunal.
