Saturday 28th October 2023 Exeter v Lincoln 5,612 attendance
6,809 last night, 1200 more fans……….take into account Sky Plus for both sides and Reading fans. Let’s be kind and say Reading would have taken more away than Lincoln but I think more would have gone Saturday overall over a Tuesday night game.
No Sky Plus in Exeter, Reading fans refuse to watch it 😂👏🏼
1200 up on last season, we were 800 down on last season, can anyone help me on this?!

Maybe there is more of a feel good factor around their clubs … No social media militia trying to undermine their clubs, causing unrest amongst the fan base and perhaps their news reporter is more genuine than the clown we have who gets his news from here and spouts tripe for the easily led to digest. Maybe their fan base are happy with life and not delusional that they should win every game comfortably. Or maybe the match day experience is far better - better food / better football and happy atmosphere. Just wild guesses !

I’ve had a season ticket 26 years and been watching us for 41, let’s not make our social media is killing our fan base. We had 6,638 against Charlton and they brought with them double and more than Shrews. Last night went down to 6,361, we lost over 500 fans…………we are winning at home but the fans can’t stand the brand of football on show and the away form is taking affect as well. Exeter before last night on Saturday had 200 less than us, now more, they play good football and are winning?! We have every right to question things, 1991 was the last time I saw us in the Championship and then I saw Wardy and Ollie take us to the Div1 play offs. This manager said we need a reality check about the squad, he can’t trust some of them, digging at the attendance last night, do your job and own it and entertain your customers.

Yes, there are lots of variables. Value for money, comfort, entertainment, 'being part of something', are probably my main reasons for lack of interest.

All good objective points btw, however I think there is a bigger picture also to consider. I remember very well the Graham Coughlan era and lower attendances with a more direct brand of football together with a quieter and less engaging demeanour as the reason we were happy (as fans) to let Cogs walk. I remember the grumbles about route 1 football and how unnattractive it was, and the space on the terraces where we were averaging 6500 a game 2 years after DC got us promotion back to L1. People just didn't appreciate what Cogs was doing, how well he was doing as well as what he was putting up with off the field, and I do feel there is a bit of that now. The overlay on the 2 periods of time are remarkably similar. A promotion from L2, the expectation we'll walk L1 within 2 seasons followed by a crash (or humbling) and a reappointment of manager where the personalities of the managers are so different people thought that we were in a tougher spot than we actually were. So when Cogs hung himself on radio we were happy to let him walk went and got Garner, then Tisdale, then Barton and we ended up relegated within 12 months. Could it be a case of be careful what we wish for if we sack MT? I know that we seem to lack identity which we clearly had with Cogs and by this time in October we had 22 points and sat 8th. However the differences with Cogs and MT are the wholesale changes that MT has had to make. This is a brand new side which will need to gel and I know the football isn't great but we are able to beat enough people to stay in this tough division this year currently. Is the squad better than what Cogs had? Id say so, but also those players had been together a lot longer than this group have. Am I happy with that, not really, but my worry is that I have no confidence that Hussain and Abdul are able to get someone else in that would do any better than what we are now and there being no guarantee of better football and any current changes to management will end up with us getting relegated. Its a pattern we have seen before and fallen prey to and I for one do not want to end up back in L2. I agree with all of that except I wasn’t happy when Coughlan walked. I quite liked being in the top 6 of league 1 and yes ever since bar a few months run in league 2 under Barton we’ve been pretty sh**. League 1 sides rarely play attractive football and in any case football is about playing to your strengths and picking up points. When I want to watch amazing football I don’t watch Rovers v Shrewsbury or Wycombe v Bolton I watch inter Milan v Bayern Munich or Barca v Madrid.

Yes, there are lots of variables. Value for money, comfort, entertainment, 'being part of something', are probably my main reasons for lack of interest. DC did it in the National league with Alex Wall, Bell Baggie, Bradley Goldberg, Adam Cunnington, Jamie White, Dave Martin to name a few and he had a terrible board behind him then, they even at one point took away hotel accommodation off him. He didn’t act like a spoilt brat, he accepted his situation and united the club like no one before. Matt Taylor needs to do his job and coach and entertain, DC owned his situation, I don’t want to hear about digs last night re our support, he has taken us to this.

I don’t think it’s entirely down to the style of football. The stadium is sub standard and no sign that it won’t remain that way. There is no communication of how or when the promised improvements will be delivered. In short there is a lack of openness from the club with supporters. We have loyal support, but our core support are getting older and there is little to attract younger supporters.

Rovers attendances have always been very poor for a city the size of Bristol. Fans have been continually let down for decades, with no move to a new stadium, just residing in a dilapidated former Rugby abode! How the Rovers fans stay loyal for so long beats me!

To be fair, a couple of weeks before the Lincoln match you refer to (October 2023), they got 6542 against Barnsley, and when they played Reading on 26th August 2023, they got 7956. 1147 more than they got for the same fixture last night. Sky+ is a factor, but you're right in one way, the biggest factor is probably form. Exeter are in the play offs and had won 4 of their previous 5 in L1 going into last nights game. Rovers were going into the game against struggling Shrewsbury having lost 6 of our last 8 in all competitions. Obviously the away following can also make a difference, and we haven't really played anybody yet that have come close to selling out their allocation. Our average home crowd for the first 6 games last season was 7703, this season 7527. Very little difference. However, last season our crowds started to edge up, and they're currently going the other way, so it will be interesting to see how that develops over the next few games. If for example, we beat Reading and Weston, and our attendance against Lincoln is still similar to last night, then that would be a concern.

This season ST’s is down on last season, people will think I keep bleating on but we’ve won the majority at home this season and people are not going, what does it tell you?!

*community note* Bristol Rovers won the game and they have got 9 points out of a possible 12 points. That’s promotion form. *Business Note* The club is losing money and there was not 6,300 in attendance tonight, will this game attract more fans to come back? *Reality Note* 4 of our 5 wins have came against Burton, Cambridge, Shrews and Northampton below us. A good win against mid table Charlton. I am just being a decent bloke and warning the “community” that the fixtures have been good to us and tough times are coming. I hope the community understands my care for them and us, I’d be surprised if normal service doesn’t return Saturday based on tonight’s showing. The home fixtures have been good to us however bar Burton out away game have been Stockport, Rotherham, Peterborough, Barnsley and Huddersfield who are all teams you’d expect to be in the mix come the end of the season.

Reading did have something to complain about and still do. Maybe during the Higgs regime it may have been justified but not currently, so be careful what you wish for. I'd need to be enlightened tbh. I've no idea what the intentions of the owners are? I can see and hear what is going on as a punter, and it doesn't exactly fill me with any degree of confidence. I listened to JBs podcast today and he seems pretty clear about the situation. From my view, these guys are just fooling around with a toy. Agree we need to know more, and that needs to come sooner than later. Will listen to the JB podcast, though after listening to some of the rubbish that’s comes out his mouth, it’s difficult to know whether to take him seriously or not.

Oxford had been knocking at the door for seasons, so you could say the season they almost got relegated was a blip… Stevenage is the exception that proves the rule. Not saying we are going to be successful under Taylor but to sack after 3 wins in 4 is madness. If you were going to do it is when we lost 4 on the trot. We'll see how that goes has December will be very telling: A - Leyton Orient H - Bolton A - Birmingham H - Wrexham A - Exeter A - Stevenage Agree about December. If we lose the majority of those we will probably see the back of him.

Funny old game last night. Sotiriou needs to "man up" a bit. Too lightweight. Forde, Lindsay and Conteh impressed.

Yes, there are lots of variables. Value for money, comfort, entertainment, 'being part of something', are probably my main reasons for lack of interest. At the start of last season many fans bought into JB’s hype that we were going to be genuine promotion contenders. There was a feel good factor going into the start of the season and a lot of fans were genuinely excited by the players we signed. It was all just that …. Hype. We were never genuine promotion hopefuls . Going into this season there’s been none of that hype but we’re probably doing better at this stage than we were last season ( I haven’t checked). Realism not a ticket seller ?

No they have'nt. In the Fifties we had regular gates of 20K. Also in the 60's & 70's I remember a few crowds of 30 K.
