I would be looking at Toto Nsiala at Grimsby, out of contract and I thought he played brilliantly against us at Wembley. If I remember correctly he made quite a few fantastic tackles including one on blisset to stop him going through on goal late in the game. Weird how opinions differ, I thought he was dodgy as anything - nearly sliced one in his own net at one point. The only Grimsby players I'd look at would be McKeown the keeper if one of Mildy/Puddy goes, as he's been consistently good for a while now, or Pearson the centre-back to provide competition with Macca and Parkes. In fairness I would be looking at Pearson as well, both players out of contract and played 30+ games for the second best defence in the league, we'd be silly not to look at them! As I expect Trotman to be released (unfortunately for him being injury prone) I agree we should be definitely looking for cover/competition at CB.

I'll throw out my shopping list.
In my opinion, in order of priority, we need:
Goalkeeper Winger CM Striker CB Winger 2
Keeper for me is a must. No more changes during the season unless imperitive. Keep Puddy for backup. I'd look at Ryan Clarke, it just seems very suiting.
On to winger. Obvious that's a need. My first look would have been Akinola, but he's just resigned a deal. So move on. I'd look at Dawson or Jai Reason from Eastleigh. Or possibly even Sanchez Watt.
CM - simple, sign Lines. If we can't get him, look at Luke Young from Torquay.
Striker - We need an experienced target man who can chip in with goals. Also, someone who can take Blissett under his wing and show him tricks of the trade. I'd go for Akinfenwa on a one year deal.
CB - To compete with Parkes and Macca, I did like the look of Nsala.
Winger 2 - Depends on the futures of Gosling or Balanta, but i'd look at another winger, perhaps a development player possible.

Even if we got Lines I would still go for Young of torquay as we newed competition in that area.

Buying a player because he tackled Blisset once would be like buying blisset because he scored against us once... Oh hang on !....

Also, considering we play so much long ball to our small strikers, it's no surprise mediocre CBs look half about against us.

I know you're joking but I really don't see everyone's gripe with Blisset?! Yes I know he's a little raw but this really is the first proffessional club he has been at so surely he can only improve? I'd definitely take him over some of the dross we've had up front over the years anyway. Most importantly he makes up a terrific meme.

He could learn to be a handfull but I don't think he'll ever learn to be a good footballer. Id love it if he proved me wrong though. Btw I don't ever shout abuse at him or dnything like that and I support him just the same as our other players. I just don't see a footballer there I'm afraid.

Seeming he's played 40 games for the second best defence in the league, I'm pretty sure he's had more than one good game in fairness. I wouldn't be looking at him to start anyway but would think he would be a cheap option as cover for McChrystal and Parkes.

Yeah no definitely not accusing you of abusing him, thought your reply was funny! It's just I've seen loads of people wanting to ship him out and I think we should give him a little bit more of a chance seeming he's only played for us for half a season!

Just had a flick through Grimsbys 'retained list' thread and he does get some good reviews. There are a few negative ones but mainly positive. Fwiw I thought he was a very dominant figure on Sunday but again, the way we knock it forwards is a CBs dream against smaller strikers.

If Bliss becomes a handful, that will suit the others. We can always do with a out ball like that rather than hoofs up to a shorty. Bliss will be learning every game and its cringeworthy when our fans get on his case.

We have a cracking record when he's started for us (never lost I think) so it's not as if we were playing with 10 men...... If he can add a bit more in terms of fitness, awareness and technique, which he should be able to as only recently turned pro, then he can play a big part for us next season.

1 - prefer to do this after the retained list is out, which I guess won;t be long?
I feel bad saying this but DC needs to get working [LOL] because most teams now have had a good 2 to 3 week headstart on us; signing up and letting players go. I'm not suggesting that we missed out on John Akinde last season, but interesting that he was snapped up straight away by Barnet whilst we were still sacking people.
2 - Don't think too many changes are advantageous. EVERY player has said this is the best dressing room they've been part of. We even have a loan player from a much bigger club [Dawson] & who actually only started about 8 games for us, following us to games, on twitter etc, saying best set of lads he's been with.
Don't break this spirit up. let just a few leave and for others do some short term contracts. make bigger changes at the end of next season, or even in jan if needed. Give most of these boys a chance.
Please don't freeze players out like Trollope did, and certainly don't get in expensive players who offer little extra. At least we know DC most probably won't be doing the latter.

I have a funny feeling that Mildenhall could yet surprise a few and reclaim his number 1 jersey. He's vastly experienced and a good character, he was very solid for us in his first year and a bit and he is by no means too old for a goalkeeper if he can regain his best form. i can;t quite explain it either but I really get that feeling as well. Just like Parkes was shocked back into becoming a better player, I somehow feel Mildy might also up his game after an indifferent season. Goalies often go on for years and years. Age is pretty irrelevant, and you CAN teach an old goalkeeper new tricks. Maybe there is something going on with him, re crosses / high balls? let's deconstruct him, waterboard him, thumbscrew him, snap him in two like a lollipop stick, and then put him back together again As much as i love Puddy he's never going to grow, and there have been a few worrying signs recently.

Can't wait for next season reading this thread. I honestly think we've got a chance of back to back promotions. Having 3 automatic promotion places to aim for is a breathe of fresh air after having " how are Barnet getting on ?"ringing in my ears all season. I feel like our experience in the division below is invaluable to us now. In fact I'm feeling strangely arrogant about it. A kind of, 'Yeah well you don't know what it's like down there' attitude to all the others in our league. People fall, and return 5+ years later. Well we did it in one sodding year. Now let's use our experience and fight for that top spot - even though we could finish 2nd or 3rd and STILL get automatic. loving the positivity but it is verging on the arrogant. we had 9 seasons in the 'easiest league in Britain to get out of' and never got even close to the 3 automatic promotion slots! whilst Wyc went up twice, D&R went up, Exeter, Darlington, Rushden and Diamonds... shall I continue?

And Ollie palmer. drinks are on us being serious, Grimsby must have a good defence as they let in the 2nd lowest amount of goals in the season.

I think he has something to offer and with an injury-free pre-season I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a marked improvement next season.
