Let's be honest. Bristol Sport-the whole lot of them-will grow in strength and size. The associated clubs will get better and achieve success in the long term due to investment and a well put together operation. The small satisfaction on here won't last long because I expect the teds, the rugby and the others to do pretty well again next season. Us on the other hand, have fewer guarantees and our future and success is largely based on luck and chemistry. At least that's how I see it. I used to play alot of monopoly and he with all the properties usually goes on to win in the end. I think we all realise that. and that is precisely why the recent failure of the rugby team and women's football team is quite funny. It may not last long so we might as well laugh now. And of course, although Lansdown is VERY rich, he has shown that he is not going to pump LARGE amounts of money into this. Therefore seeing him lose money via rugby, and literally throw his money down a sewer with motor sport, is good, as it does seem to affect the money he puts into City, which is frankly all we really care about. David vs Goliath and all that malarkey.

If SL bought out Rovers and changed the shirts, I don't care if we'd be in the prem, I'd be the first one on the Bristol Rovers AFC bandwagon. There's more to supporting a club than how successful said club is Well he hasn't changed Bristol Shirts yet anymore than anyone else
it's not like they haven't had Red away kit before SL

Yeah, I was talking about the rugby. Well don't. unless of course you wish to agree that we should all take a look at ourselves when thinking that the failure of Bristol Sport Rugby Franchise is funny [BTW - they weren't relegated, or thrown out of rugby, all they did was fail to get promoted because they lost a game of rugby - hardly the Rwandan genocide]

Peter, explain why they love SL and hate us ? We saved them, he saved them, were is the difference ? This is my understanding of the situation - but it may be wrong. : You have to remember that the Rugby Club owned the Mem before we became their tenants when we moved out of Twerton. The joint ownership thing was to enable Rovers to take advantage of large ground improvement grants from the Football league but then an agreement was put in place that if either BRFC or Bristol Rugby went bust - the other could buy the remaining half of the ground for a peppercorn amount. The belief was that Rovers were more likely to go bust than the Rugby Club. This protected both sides This was how BRFC came to own the whole of the stadium. The new Bristol Rugby felt that in the spirit of the agreement they should be allowed to buy back their half of the ground for the amount that Rovers paid them but Rovers disagreed and refused. The rest is as they say.... There's that bloody word again. Peppercorn. Everyone loves to chat about peppercorns.

Without SL their would be no Bristol Rugby or Bristol Ladies Football team, because their was no one else to put the money in. You know the history(they would have gone a lot sooner if amtrak got their way) ,the bit that gets peoples goat is Bristol fans were whining about the ground when it was legitimately bought, i said something a long while back quite a few people thought i was crackers(well ok i am), i said that lansdown would move the club under a cloud and we would get the blame(planning permission), i also said that as soon as bristol secured the use of our ground for another 12 months, Lansdown would come out of the shadows, he rather did The other point happened too but seems to be lost in peoples minds, when we announced the UWE the rugby crowed went loopy, at this point dog announced that bristol would have a safe home at ag, Short memories rugby fans started happy clapping, but couldn't quite get it into their heads that this was dog'd intentions from day one, although it caused anger, to me as a business move it was an absolutely sneaky plan well implemented, ie rugby fans going loopy about the mem, dog on white horse appears and says ok you will have a new home at ag. If i was in charge of our club at that point in time when the rugby were trying to secure another season at the mem i would have either charged them a couple of million or sais sorry guys, but you already have a ground .

Let's not forget also the whole play-off debacle was voted in by Briz in the first place. If they had left it as it was they would have gone straight back up at the first time of asking. How can a system where you win the league outright but not go straight up be fair ? Anyway stupid game played by fat blokes that were never good enough to play footie. Keep throwing your money away pantsdown. As i remember not only that but the rugby prem league each club has a massive stake in the league finacially, i think the playoffs are a way to weed out the weaker clubs who would go up and then come straight back down, the other thing is bristol only have themselves to blame as the did get relagated from the prem and now struggle to get back in

The fact of the matter is, that Bristol Rugby set up the contract with the Mem in the hope they'd stitch us up and get it for next to nothing if (in their opinion "when") we went under (we were in a terrible financial state at the time [yes, even worse than we are now]).
However, karma (that word keeps cropping up a lot recently) came back to bite them in the arse when they hit the wall first. As such, we exercised our contractual right to purchase the ground at the pre-agreed price; no different whatsoever to what they would have done had it have been the other way around.
Unfortunately Bristol Rugby fans have always struggled to grasp this simple, basic fact and have always declared to any who are prepared to listen that "Rovers stole their ground".
Growing up with a lot of Bristol supporting family and friends has meant years of vitriol being spouted in my direction.
As such, I cannot overly sympathise with them given their latest promotion bottling.
That said, it then gets taken to a whole other level when you consider they are now owned by Lansdown.
Looking through Facebook yesterday, every single City fan I know was updating their status about how unlucky Bristol were. I know for a fact some of them couldn't care less about rugby and the only reason they care now is because they feel like they are linked to their beloved Bristol City. And frankly, that's how I see it too.
That is the main reason I am enjoying their latest failure.

I am asure some will put me right, when the Teds went bust they never repaid all those out of pocket when re formed under SL, did the rugby club repay all those that lost out when they went bust ? Interested, as I really don't know the answers. Did they ever really go bust/bankrupt? I think they were just in financial crisis but got bought out before that could happen, both times. they went buster than hattie jacques wearing a 32a bra. They went bust to avoid paying what they owed, the worst thing was it wasn't massive companies they owed who could shoulder the loss ,but as i recall some local businesses, at the time we did try to buy the ground of em . The best thing for me is a lot of Sh1!heads keep moaning about us calling em 82er's or bcfc 1982 ltd, and they really dont know why, a lot hold the ashton gate 8 as heroes, but seem to forget the death threats, turds through the players doors etc, the only player i feel sorry for but only a smidge mind from then was aitken, left us to join them and got screwed over(although self inflicted for joining em) . and i alway have a slight giggle that one of the 8 was one of our traitors.

He's not very well. His heart is in the right place, but he's ill. And we don't need to take the Brine out of him. He's just a pleasant old bloke, who's been seriously ill.

And frankly, that's how I see it too. That is the main reason I am enjoying their latest failure. Nail on head RD. I had no reason to be partisan and could happily take an interest in Bristol Rugby years ago as indeed I did and do with Gloucestershire for cricket. Us moving to the mem changed nowt for me, I kept a very casual interest, and in fact I was probably actually less in favour as they ruined the pitch for a few months a year, aside from rumours of an acrimonious relationship with Rovers behind the scenes. The move to AG and even ownership by SL changes nothing for me in terms of interest. But the fact of the matter is that bringing them in to the BCFC Franchise is divisive and indeed a very deliberate attempt to create a bigger identity for fans at the expense of the individual clubs. Its the bed they are making and brings consequences if they push it too far, as the "2 teams in Bristol" posters did in my view. I dare say if you are a big Bristol Rugby fan its not an issue as you have now got a business savvy and wealthy owner to buy some eventual success (no bitterness as we'd like that some of that I'm sure). But for the 80% of Bristolians that are at best casual observers, as indeed they are with football, it attempts to change how they feel and changes how I feel. But as I said, its what they are wanting to do. Bed made, so hope they enjoy lying and crying in it. WAHHH!

Can't be arsed to look at the whole thread, but put quite simply I support Bristol Rugby, because I like rugby and I'm from Bristol, simple as.
Do I like Pantsdown owning Bristol? No. Do I like them playing in red? No. Do I still support them? Yes.

They were renamed Bristol City(1982) plc. BCFC went bankrupt and a new club was formed. Yeah, I was talking about the rugby. Ah, apologies. Then the answer is no.

What a load of rubbish - they were very much part of the new stadium plans, do you choose to forget the original drawings with a Rugby logo as well as a Rovers one ? They had the opportunity to be part of a state of the art stadium in their heartland, they chose not to be part of it and decided selling out to their secretive "white knight" was a better move, their choice, ultimately their loss. Sadly for us with real support from the Rugby the UWE would have had even more momentum and who knows it may just have moved a little quicker ...... Another reason not to be sad about their failure in my opinion. While we are at it they have to take the blame for selling half the Mem site for housing and the foolish decision to sell their training ground at the end of the Filton runway, or was all that Rovers fault as well ?
