In all fairness, he had two chances on what the Aussies proved was a decent pitch and he failed twice. I stand by my original point, too many people called for his head too quickly...but after previous failures, if you can't perform (twice) in a dead-rubber on a decent pitch, now it's (probably) time for a change...I'd still like you to pick a batsman who can play Test Cricket to replace him though...
...incidentally, neither team in the Ashes had anyone who really played Test Cricket, so who can step up to the plate and score 50+ in any conditions against any top-level attack?

So three Tests against Pakistan in the UAE...on flat pitches, what does he need to average over 3 matches to keep the place for the 4 in South Africa?

Why Alex Hales? Lyth has scored more first class runs, at a higher average than Hales. By what criteria do you think Hales will do better than Lyth, and please, this is the England cricket team......'giving him a go' is not really the criteria is it?

Lyth has scored more first class runs, at a higher average than Hales. Really? What this year? I am truly amazed. Lyth has averaged 20 in seven tests, mainly due to a century against New Zealand. Not sure how many he has scored for Yorkshire. Your stat has dumbfounded me.

It shouldn't dumbfound you. Just look at the official stats. Career wise, Lyth has more first-class runs at a better average than Hales.

You can't use this year alone as a guideline. Lyth has been playing Test cricket against a Test attack. Hales has been milking bowlers in County cricket. That's like comparing apples to pears. If you did that you'd have to replace over half the current English batting line-up !

Its all about current form.

Alex Hales First Class record Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50 4s 6s Ct St First-class 84 145 6 5414 236 38.94 8962 60.41 12 30 787 31 72 0
Adam Lyth First Class record First-class 112 180 8 7089 251 41.21 16 42 135 0
Lyth - More runs, better average, more 100' and more 50's...............the point is, what makes you think Hales will do better?
As I said, if you use current averages, then most of the English batsmen, who have been playing Test cricket against Test bowlers, would have to be dropped over players who have a better seasons average playing County cricket! Are you always such a tool? I suggest that it's you that needs to 'get real' !

He's had 2 or 3 chances now. So that's 25% of a Ashes winning team who you think shouldn't be there... Lol its a good job you ain't a selector.

Lol so you didn't mind me mentioning Bairstow as it fitted in with your agenda, you quite happily fielded questions which you could answer, now you can't answer about Bell, its all who mentioned Bell? You bought them into the thread, yet you don't even realise it...
