Mods would not need to step in if everyone followed the rules. I completely understand RDs decision. It's an impossible task and as a Mod there seems to be an unreasonable expectation that you will have read and understood every single post on every single thread. Sometimes, as RD has found out today you get sh** when you act (locking a thread) and you get sh** if you do nothing. Packing in modding was the best thing I ever did. All I ever got was wall to wall grief and an inbox full of unpleasant messages or moans. It's a shame because I was proud of being part of what can be a fantasic place. Mods are not here 24/7. Sometimes it may be hours or even days after an event that you find out someone has taken offense or A rule has been broken. Often by that time things have cooled down so as a Mod you let it go rather than stir it all up again. The original mods set the site up in the hope that people were going to be able to show a little respect to one another. Clearly that's beyond some. None of us ever wanted to be mods in the first place, we just wanted somewhere to go after the closing of the OF. I've neither the will, nor the inclination to debate what everyone thinks a Mod here should do. The simple fact is that posters should moderate themselves. The issues I had with the Mods was not missing other peoples abuse but joining in, especially RAS This forum would never have existed were it not for ras,the mans a legend in my eyes.

The issues I had with the Mods was not missing other peoples abuse but joining in, especially RAS Even IF you felt Ras "abused" you, I take exception to you making out it was in some way a number of mods. That is simply untrue. Was pretty bad when i left, letting people run wild on threads you were contributing to, just plain old ignoring and facilitating bullying imo. As i said, doing the right thing, thanks for the hard work.

Where is Ras these days? Anyone in touch with him outside the forum?

How can you be bullied on a forum, surely if you don't like what somebody's posting you just ignore them?

Tbh I just don't have the time. When I took up the role, we had somewhere between 50 to 100 members; now there are thousands! Following the issues over the weekend, the first I found out about it was late last night, as it was the first time I managed to get on over the weekend. I'm going to become a father shortly and, as a result, I'll have even less time. So thanks for the kind words, but I do believe that the position would be better suited to someone else. I'm not leaving completely though and will still post on here. You will be sorely missed as a mod, Roverdrive, because I think you do a really good job - one which is almost impossible at times and pretty thankless too. That said, your reasons for finishing are completely understandable. Definitely not the kind of thing you want to be giving even a second's thought to when you've got a baby on the way. Exciting times, mate. Glad you're sticking around on here as a non-mod too.

As i said, doing the right thing, thanks for the hard work. I'm not really sure I'm following you - is the first part of your paragraph aimed directly at me? I have to disagree I'm afraid. It's always seemed that there are a few posters (one very recently) who felt that if mods disagreed with them it was somehow bullying or abusing their position - as if because they were a mod, they weren't entitled to an opinion or to disagree with anyone. Just because someone is a mod does not mean that they have to agree with everything everyone says. Some posters simply cannot grasp that unfortunately. i certainly don't remember the bullying you speak of. I remember you having issues with Ras and, as a result, he stepped down and left the forum. But I don't really remember anything else?

Thank you mate. like you say, more important and time consuming things on the way and I think it needs someone else who can commit to the role more than I'll be able to going forward. Thanks again

Sad that you have been forced to feel like this Roverdrive. I really like you as a poster and a mod and would be sad to see you step down. I hope you reconsider your view on the position. Well done. 3 more posters leaving and a moderator. Would it really have been too much for you to just have said sorry for your offensive post it the first place? You are very fortunate not to have been banned for a few weeks because frankly you've been warned too many times and failed to accept any responsibility. Yes, I'm attacking you, and I don't care any more. You have ruined this forum for too many for too long and I include your trolling of me a few weeks back in that. You need to have a bloody good look at yourself. I will accept my forthcoming ban with good grace and no malice. I will not be held responsible for people leaving, that is entirely their prerogative. As others have said they can block me if they so wish, that would solve the problem instantly. Have a good evening Hugo.

"The reality is - as Hugo puts it - people need to moderate themselves."
Nail, head! Enough said. Let's try and move on?

It beats me how anyone can get on the wrong side of someone as fair-minded as Hugo, but fair play, you managed it GGMI, as well as getting on the nerves of nearly every other poster on here, it seems. It's a shame, as if you take away the juvenile craap that you post, you can be an insightful poster. I think if it wasn't for that, you would probably have been banned months ago. It's fairly obvious you're going to be banned soon if things continue as they are, which is, in my opinion, a shame. Maybe it's what you want.

I think it's about time we put an end to this Roverdrive reluctantly deleted a thread for what he believed was the good of the forum and then got stick for doing so. Sadly Roverdrive has now stepped down I don't know if it is because of this, but it likely contributed to his decision. I think the least we can do out of respect for Roverdive and the work he has done to keep this place going is to let the matter drop.

Sorry Gas Go Marching In, but people have cited you in their reasons for leaving, whether or not you chose to be held responsible. We all need to be responsible for the content of our own posts, and if inadvertently we do offend, then I don't think it's too big an ask for the poster to apologise. Thanks RD for all your hard work. No doubt you'll be posting in the early hours when the little one arrives!

It's easily done on this site, I've also done it.

Why not just promote the 'block member' function more widely?
