Why not just promote the 'block member' function more widely? Why not promote the 'don't be a bellend' function more widely?

Maybe we ought to help moderate ourselves a bit more. Can we change the 'dislike' button to a yellow card (purely for lightheartedness) and 5 yellows for a comment results in a 7 day stay in the sin bin.

Why not just promote the 'block member' function more widely? Why not promote the 'don't be a bellend' function more widely? Wouldn't that be a bit harsh on Bags though?

I always like a good debate with people who have very different views to mine. Sometimes it reinforces my thinking and other times it forces me into rethinking. If you only seek people with the same views as your own you never learn anything.

To be fair to most posters on here whilst we sometimes have differing views there's only a few who take it too far, too often. Even JB's calmed down a bit recently and LJG seems to have disappeared, assuming he's not been banned?

Mods would not need to step in if everyone followed the rules. I completely understand RDs decision. It's an impossible task and as a Mod there seems to be an unreasonable expectation that you will have read and understood every single post on every single thread. Sometimes, as RD has found our today you get sh** when you act (locking a thread) and you get sh** if you do nothing. Packing in modding was the best thing I ever did. All I ever got was wall to wall grief and an inbox full of unpleasant messages or moans. It's a shame because I was proud of being part of what can be a fantasic place. Mods are not here 24/7. Sometimes it may be hours or even days after an event that you find out someone has taken offense or A rule has been broken. Often by that time things have cooled down so as a Mod you let it go rather than stir it all up again. The original mods set the site up in the hope that people were going to be able to show a little respect to one another. Clearly that's beyond some. None of us ever wanted to be mods in the first place, we just wanted somewhere to go after the closing of the OF. I've neither the will, nor the inclination to debate what everyone thinks a Mod here should do. The simple fact is that posters should moderate themselves. Thanks mate - I completely agree. In the old days when the forum was smaller, it was obviously MUCH easier to moderate. Now with a couple of thousand users, it is very difficult to do so. The issue with being a mod is that you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. Take no action and you're not doing your job. Lock a thread/delete a post/ban a user and your acting like "North Korea" and trying to censor the masses. You're f*cked either way. Ultimately this is a football forum. It's pathetic frankly that we ever argue - I could understand it if we all supported different teams, but we all support the same side! Granted it would be silly to think that everyone on the forum will always get along, but I still find it hard to believe that people moan as much as they do. Ideally the Mod team would be full-time, but that is highly unrealistic unless forum members are prepared to pay a membership fee high enough to cover someones salary. No? Thought not. The reality is - as Hugo puts it - people need to moderate themselves. Furthermore, as pointed out countless times before, people should just block those posters who annoy them. If they did that, you've effectively banned them anyway! Roverdrive thank you for your response and thank you for all your bleedin hard work in a thankless task! Good you are keeping posting fella One further question if i may: Please be soddin honest as it appears to me reading between the lines if it was solely up to you would you have banned said perpetrator yesterday would i be correct? Once again a big bloody thank you and you can leave the boardroom now with head held high Well go on Sod off then!
