And the other good thing is he has been training with the team for 4 weeks so will already be familiar with the other players, formations and tactics.
He must also be fitting in with the team spirit or DC would have got rid.
It's a 'no lose' situation really

As DC says, he is an old fashioned centre forward. Wot?...a big bloke who plays down the middle, gets on the end of crosses and bangs them in....sounds good to me!

Whilst his goals to games ratio isn't the best he has played in some pretty big matches over the years and scored some good goals. www.youtube.com/results?search_query=riory+fallon+goalAlso at 33 and with his injury problems this is probably his last chance of league football if his time with us doesn't go well. He will be extra motivated. Seems a good signing to me.

He'll add a little something new to our game, and I think he'll contribute well for the rest of the season, good signing imo

If he can play as big a part as Paul Nixon did in our 90s promotion then he'll have done well. His experience of playing on the biggest stage will no doubt help our squad in the run in.

Love this sort of signing. All parties have nothing to lose and absolutely everything to gain. There are no shortcuts to experience on the pitch and in the dressing room.

I'll reserve judgement on this one. He was on the scrapheap for a reason but DC has obviously made a decision.

Saturday 0-0 with minutes to go! Substitute fallon has fallon(fallen) over in the box a rory(roar) frm the gasheads 'penalty!!' and 2minutes later 0-1. I dnt mind rory fallon(fallen) in the box every game if it results ina successfully taken pen.. (got abit carried away with the brackets) hmmm

Personally, I can't see why this thread contains so much antipathy about the signing.
First, whilst RF has been out of action for a considerable amount of time because of a cruciate ligament injury, he has obviously made every attempt to get himself back fit again. His age and experience can only add to the squad (if only in the dressing room). The nature of his contract would seem to reflect the truly "unknown" factor - being his match fitness - and, if he is able to prove that aspect, his "on the field" contribution could be priceless over the next few months.
Secondly, I have listened to his interview and he seems genuinely motivated, and seems to desperately want to get back into league football. True, motivation can be an intensely selfish thing but, in football, personal motivation can only really be satisfied by fitting into a team ethic and wanting to add to the other players around you. I also think that he recognises this.
Finally, and seemingly unknown to most of us, he has been training with the squad for the last month. DC has therefore had the chance to assess his fitness and the way in which he fits in with the squad. DC seems to pick a certain "type" on player when he makes his signings. They have to be motivated, they have to "fit in" and they have to have a winning mentality. Who of us can admit to have been over the moon with the original signings of Stuart Sinclair, Daniel Leadbitter, James Clark or Matty Taylor. Who of us was over the moon with the original loan signing of Rory Gaffney. Every single one of them has exceeded all of our expectations and I am prepared to believe that Rory Fallon can add to that list.
I wish him the best of luck with his recovery from injury - I hope that we can help him forward and at the same time he can help us forward.
Personally, I think this is a great deal for both us and Rory Fallon.

The NZ view!
All Whites World Cup hero Rory Fallon gets career-saving deal at Bristol Rovers
All Whites World Cup hero Rory Fallon has had his career resurrected by a deal with Bristol Rovers and wants to play for New Zealand again.
The striker scored New Zealand's goal in the 1-0 win over Bahrain that sent the All Whites to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
He has been out of action for a year with a cruciate ligament injury and feared his career was finished.
His last competitive match was for Scunthorpe United in October 2014.
But the former Barnsley and Plymouth player has been training with league two outfit Bristol Rovers and done enough to convince manager Darrell Clarke he's worth a shot.
"He's a very experienced footballer and someone who I would call an old-fashioned striker. He will give us different options during games, especially when I want to change formations or personnel and he adds further competition to my squad," Clarke said as Bristol Rovers announced Fallon had been given a deal on non-contract terms that meant he was on an incentive-based stay.
He could be thrust into action this weekend and that can't come fast enough for Fallon, son of former All Whites coach Kevin.
"There was many a night that I was laid in my bed thinking it was the end," Fallon told the Bristol Post.
"I didn't want to end my career on an injury because I felt I still had a lot to offer.
"The injury was hard to deal with mentally but I count it as a blessing because I have learned a lot about myself. It has given me a period of restoration and reflection and that has only increased my hunger for the game. When something has been taken away from you it only makes you want it more and that is how I feel.
"I have always appreciated the opportunities that I have been given as a footballer, but the time out has really brought home just what a fantastic job it is. It's been a long road back and pulling on a shirt on Saturday will be a relief and a bit surreal."
Fallon's other clubs include Swindon Town, Swansea City, Yeovil Town, Aberdeen, St Johnstone and Crawley Town.
He said he still had ambitions to add to his 18 caps for the All Whites and believed he could help Andrew Hudson's drive to get New Zealand to the next World Cup.
"I'd love to get back into the international set-up," Fallon told the Bristol Post.
"I have been speaking to the coach and I hope that by doing well here I can put myself in the shop window.
"The Confederations Cup is not too far away and there are also World Cup qualifiers to work towards and that only makes me more purpose-driven to do well for Bristol Rovers."

Goals direct from corners might be nice. Made me think of a section of David Goldblatts book "The Game of our lives"...Premier league teams score a goal from a corner once every 10 games. So if you go to every home game you might only see two a year !

Perhaps this may mean Ellis may not come back after his Month loan.

Perhaps this may mean Ellis may not come back after his Month loan. Fallon and Ellis are fighting it out for 4th choice striker. Weakest may leave eventually but we were always going to bring in another striker.

If he chips in with a few goals then great but I'd still rather keep Ellis long term.
