Fallon and Ellis are fighting it out for 4th choice striker. Weakest may leave eventually but we were always going to bring in another striker. Ellis has an awful lot of years on Fallon. If he chips in with a few goals then great but I'd still rather keep Ellis long term. Ellis has really got to prove himself between now and the end of the season to earn another contract IMO. Hopefully he will find some form right when we need it.

Good read - agree with pretty much all of that. Deal makes sense for everyone involved IMO.

Trust DC on this, as hes been training with us for the last 4 weeks, DC has obviously seen something that Rory can bring to the squad #UTG Yes, that's what I will do, trust DC. I'm not sure we need him, seems too much like signings under MM or JW, old pros looking for a wage. I am sure DC will not let our togetherness in the squad be disrupted and he sounds ok. Welcome to Rovers Rory. UTG!

Point I was trying to make was I hope we are tending to sign players who are on the way up not older pros looking to end careers. But in terms of financial commitment you're probably right. Hope I'm proved wrong and he scores a few goals in last ten minutes of matches. UTG!

If Fallon is match -fit he will be a class above EH, just like Easter, Gaffney and Taylor. He might be a class above iyo but Ellis has time to surpass the levels that Fallon has. Ellis has more goals in him from what the stats suggest. We have Easter and Gaffney who both hold up play, Taylor is our "poacher" furthest forward. Ellis brings a directness, some power and is not afraid to shoot. I can't see that we needed another back to goal player? There is certainly no chance that Fallon will offer the same threat off the bench. Some height aside, but defenders are terrified of fresh pace in the last 15 not long high punts.

If Fallon can hold the ball up in the last 15 minutes in games we are winning then opponents hate that if your beating them and it's late in the game. Different plsyers for different scenarios.

Crewe's leading scorer,Colclough, gone to Wigan for five hundred thousand reported this morning on Radio Stoke.Hope we don't lose anyone in the last few days of the'Window' but think Crewe have done well to get that. When we went into the Conference I was disappointed not to be able to go and see the Gas at nearby Crewe and Shrewsbury but think that there may be a good chance next season.

The stuff in bold for me also describes Gaffney but I have much more faith that the ball is going to go on target from him rather than from Ellis. Ellis is now 21 I think - has he developed much ? Not in my opinion. Can't head a ball, rubbish left foot, hold up play - weaker than the other 3, and never takes a defender on with skill !? Pace ? Is he quicker than Gaffney ? Not sure, but with speed you still need to have the ball under control and a brain to go with it ! Fallon played at Championship level for a number of seasons for a reason. get him match-fit and we might see some more headed goals from the team - this is one where we are very weak.

Ellis may have the "potential" (as we keep being reminded) and the fact that he is around the Wales team may underline that. However his problem is still attitudinal and the time is fast approaching when he will have to turn that potential into fact. I am not convinced we can afford to wait that much longer. There are others in the club whose attitude is much better and they will be pressing for the first team. DC seems to put a high level of focus on attitude. Fallon seems to have a good attitude to joining the club even though he is overcoming injury. I like Ellis and hope that he does get time to prove the potential you think he has to be a consistent member of the team. But he better start showing it soon for his own sake.

I think both Fallon and Lawrence have been brought in to do a job this season, and that is all. Lawrence (when fit) will hopefully play the role we all expected Lines to play, but Lines hasn't really stepped up to the mark as he. I think DC is already looking at next season in Div one, and does anyone really think Ellis will cut it in Div One when he can't get into the team in Div two?

Where do you get the oft quoted statement that Ellis has an attitude? ~ From times I have seen him play ~ From his "face to market" through social media ~ anecdotal evidence Whilst the last I would not give too much weight to overall because some of it can come from those who may not particularly like the lad, especially after the City watching incident, the overall body of evidence is not in his favour. However DC obviously has time for him and wants him to succeed hence his arranging of the loan to Hartlepool. However as you know from your scouting experience, managers do a lot of background work on players they target, I've had calls from contacts from time to time about local players in the North West (although I am not in your league of expertise) and that is mainly about their reputation, press activity etc. If Ellis was the exciting prospect, and there is no doubting he does have some talent, at this age the club should be getting enquiries. The fact that he is having to go out on loan to get game time does not augur well when he did well at the end of last season and should have continued progress this season to keep his place.
