Torn between leaving and staying. If we stay, part of a costly payment system, we go, well what have we got to offer? We own nothing, we're not an empire anymore, we produce nothing, just a tiny little island sat off the coast of Europe being involved in nothing. Stay in. How can you say the UK produces nothing when it is the fifth (?) largest economy in the world? Baggins produces nothing.

Pinched from elsewhere....
"Contrary to popular belief, the UK does actually manufacture stuff, and is the sixth largest manufacturer in the world. Our three strongest manufacturing sectors are automotives (although most are foreign owned), Pharmaceuticals (Third largest in the world) and Aerospace and Defence (second largest in the world). When it comes to high tech manufacturing, we are right up there with America, Germany and Japan.
Throw in Financial Services as well where the UK are amongst the best and biggest in the world. Britain is also one of the worlds largest video game creators and marketers, with games like the Grand Theft Auto series. Video games bring in roughly £3.5 Billion to the UK economy every year. The UK actually manufactures and exports more cars than Germany!"

Figures for 2015 Machines, engines, pumps: US$63.9 billion (13.9% of total exports) Gems, precious metals: $53 billion (11.5%) Vehicles: $50.7 billion (11%) Pharmaceuticals: $36 billion (7.8%) Oil: $33.2 billion (7.2%) Electronic equipment: $29 billion (6.3%) Aircraft, spacecraft: $18.9 billion (4.1%) Medical, technical equipment: $18.4 billion (4%) Organic chemicals: $14 billion (3%) Plastics: $11.8 billion (2.6%) I think if we do leave the wrath of the Germans and French will be enormous. Our current markets in Europe will suffer. We might well make the best missiles at the best price but plenty of other suppliers are out there. It's not all about the money. It's about how we would be seen to be betraying an idea and a principle. I don't want to stand aloof like some Victorian looking down sneeringly on Johnny Foreigner. I want to be a part of Europe and influence chance. I'm not defending bureaucracy and inefficiency and waste. Those things need addressing, as do rules for Euro membership. It's politics and economics. Things always need addressing. When did any government ever say "That's it. Sorted Our work is done"? I'm IN.

It is time that this myth of manufacturing being killed off by Mrs Thatcher is laid to rest.

How can you say the UK produces nothing when it is the fifth (?) largest economy in the world? Because we're part of the EU? No, despite the EU. As an economy, the EU is declining. The UK economy is growing.

When we leave the EU and Honda, Nissan, Toyota decide they can't gain access to the European market through us because, well, we're not part of the EU anymore, they'll shut down our production plants and put tens of thousands out of work. Great.

Why would they shut down their plants in the UK?

Why would they shut down their plants in the UK? Because they'd rather trade and employ in Europe.

Why would they shut down their plants in the UK? Because they'd rather trade and employ in Europe. They will still be able to trade in Europe. Just because the UK may leave the EU does not mean the island will be cut off ! In other posts I've explained how my company, the German Stock Exchange (largest stock exchange on mainland Europe) are in talks to merge with the London Stock Exchange. These two big companies obviously don't care if the UK is in or out of the EU. It will be business as usual.

Foreign investment in British companies is a sign that things are good in the UK. Does it matter who owns a company?......like, maybe a football club (company)? I believe Dyson is a 'British' company, but where do they manufacture things? London Stock Exchange - Majority shareholders are from the Middle East. German Stock Exchange - Majority shareholders are from the US.

No, despite the EU. As an economy, the EU is declining. The UK economy is growing. It's not really. Honda.Toyota and Nissan invested in those plants because they are productive and are free from trade unions that destroyed our own car industry. Those plants will continue to flourish "when" we leave the EU. Your arguments are on a par with those who said Britain couldn`t survive without the Euro currency and how Nissan were demanding we join the Euro or they leave. Britain is doing well because we are not in the Euro the same as we will do well when we leave the EU.
