Much as we love DC, he got it badly wrong last night.
As soon as we heard Gosling was in the team, we thought we had half lost the initiative. What has he done to deserve a place in the side? Taylor had his second mare in two games, but Monty, the player who on his game can open up any side at this level, has a poor game and gets dropped.
Lines doesn't have a clue how to take a corner or a free kick, but still he is allowed to go on messing them up. But worst of all, we didn't try to win the game until over an hour had passed, and all our rivals were winning.
The truth is that DC still doesn't really know his best team, and they can't get into a routine of knowing how to break teams down, when they are constantly being changed around.
Even at this late stage DC, stop tinkering and put out the same side for the last three must win games and go for it. It's not all over yet.

Not sure really - I was feeling pretty negative last night but at least we got a point which could make all the difference. Need to win on Saturday then still in with a good chance. In all honesty Monty was poor on Saturday.

In all honesty Lines and Ollie not good together, but what option has DC with Mansell and Sinclair out ? Hopefully Mansell back and happy with Lines with him.

Yeah, as soon as I saw the team, I knew Gosling would hit the outside of the post, and fail to score. And as soon as I saw Leads on the teamsheet I knew he'd miss a sitter from a Gosling cross. As soon as I saw Parkes in the team instead of McC I knew he wouldn't score from that corner he didn't score from. As soon as I saw O Clarke on the teamsheet, I knew he wouldn't score, and the team wouldn't score.
Where DC is going wrong is picking a team to draw 0-0 away at Stevenage, whereas anyone who knows anything about football would know that if he picked a team to win 1-0 away at Stevenage, we would have got three points from the game.

As someone that wasn't there last night I know it's so easy to say but let's not dwell on the Stevenage game, what's done is done and no amount of analysis or blame will change that.
Had we won last night the prognosis for the last three would still be the same as it is now. Three massive performances and three wins required. Last night doesn't change anything other than our league position, as daft as that sounds.
This squad showed last season that they were better coming from behind (ooh, err) as a huge element of our success has been their never-say-die attitude as opposed to perfect game management or being the best side in the league.
Exeter is a cup final and a win Saturday will give us the impetus to push on and win our last two against teams that effectively have nothing to play for. We can still do this.
Three to go, you never know.

Wiaww. The prognosis is entirely different. We now have to win three games and hope two others drop points. If we had won last night we had to win three games. What is unchanged there?
I see from the stats that Stevenage had 54% possession. Not bad for a sh*t team playing a side that had to win. Can't remember if they had a shot on target, so you can see why they are where they are.
Hopefully Exeter will now implode as they are out of the race for the playoffs. There will probably still be twists and turns to come, just hope we don't mess things up against Exeter.

That's it Antonio - hindsight is bloody marvelous. Might have known all the DC critics would be out after just one poor result, ignoring where DC has got us. I was there, am very disappointed, but on to the next. BTW - there's a vacancy at Villa for all these armchair coaches.

Its very difficult to criticise or question DC after what has been a very good season so far,but as soon as I saw the team sheet last night I was worried tbh.
I couldn't make the game last night,so cant comment on how things panned out on the pitch,but I do find it strange when DC comes on the radio and says the days of playing a settled team is a thing of the past. He said a few weeks ago that playing the same team week in week out is ancient and he wouldn't become a footballing dinosaur, or something along those lines.
I know he's a young manager and game has changed,but call me old fashioned, isn't the tried and tested formula,for god knows how many years,to winning football matches is to pick your best team?
Given their League position and the fact that they are sh**,I really thought we'd beat Stevenage last night and on recent form was more worried about the game on Saturday against Exeter.
We all love you DC.....but lets forget all this the new age rotation sh**,pick a team that will work it into Exeter on Saturday and get things back on track. UTG

Agree with you - think this is more evident in away games when we need some bite in midfield. Feel very sorry for Sinclair (and Mansell) he was having another fantastic season until his injury. I'm disappointed in the club that they give no updates about a player they know is the fans' favourite - after all we are the ones who "pay his wages " ! |

I really can't understand why he decided to start with 5 defenders against a poor Stevenage team. The last time we set up in that formation at Portsmouth we were shocking and completely overrun. Since he changed it back to 442 it's been working so why go back to a system that doesn't work? |

Next Sat I don't see much change in the top seven, as they all have winnable games, probably the Rovers have the hardest game on paper.
The following two Saturdays that when it will get interesting and some team will drop points and the positions may change.
The pressure will be on all the top seven except Northampton to win and not drop any points one or two of the teams may crack and this will go right to the wire.
Hopefully the Gas will edge in just at the right time.

Next Sat I don't see much change in the top seven, as they all have winnable games, probably the Rovers have the hardest game on paper. I know what you're saying mate but we saw it last season when we went top and we're seeing it again this season when we sneak into the automatics; the pressure gets to the boys (and Darrell?) and we drop points. Trust me, I'd love it if we were sitting pretty in third full of confidence that we're going to keep winning and with it entirely in our own hands but we're not and I actually feel more confident that we'll win our remaining three as a result of it. This squad plays much better with a chasing mentality than a siege one. |
