Wasn't sure or not to post this but having spoken to a few of my Gashead friends they thought it would be the correct thing to do.So please read on .A couple of weeks ago i was told that i have Prostate Cancer and as you can imagine it was not something that you want to be told. But i am very positive about it as i have been told that it has been caught early and the prognosis is good.I am having my opp 25th of this month to remove the prostate ,then it will be a while to recover and get back to as normal as i can.The main reason i am posting this is NOT to gain any sympathy but to say to you guys out there that it's a simple blood test and advice from your GP that could save your life.I had and still have no symptoms whatsoever and am a quite fit 59 year old bloke.I found out that i had this problem because i have had regular tests over the last few years , the first few were normal then the PSA level started to rise which indicated that there might be a problem (PSA level is used as an indicator but have been told this isn't always the case that there is or isn't a problem so seek professional advice as i am not qualified i'm just letting you know what happened in my case. Men United have a website with info i have been told also).......I am posting this i suppose to make my negative into a positive .....if just one of you reading this thinks yeah i'm going to get checked out then i have succeeded.......Thanks for reading. Dont worry fellow Gasheads i will still be on Kettle duty for the first games of the season......Kettle on .....UTG mods please don't move this post as i want as many of you to read as possible ....Thanks. Where are you having your surgery mate? I know the Da Vinci Robot is at Exeter Hospital, I presume you are having the op done robotically.Mine was performed at Southmead and was an overnight stay. You seem about as calm as I was. PSA is a very good indicator mine went up from 2.1 in October 2015 to 9.8 before operation.I have recommended to quite a few work colleagues to get checked out,and most of them have done so. Sadly there is no National Screening Programme for this disease, but any man over 50 years of age is quite within their rights to ask for a D.R.E and a psa test. I am the same age 59.So guys do yourselves a favour and get checked.

I've had loads of blood tests since my heart problem four years ago but one more won't hurt. Just turned 57 so a good time to do it. All the best to you and hope all goes well.

I went through the same experience five years ago and had the operation three weeks after diagnosis, in my case it wasnt in the early stages but thankfully the wonderful staff at Southmead Urology got it all out. I'll always be grateful to them. Btw I had no symptoms, it was pure chance that it was discovered. At a post op seminar attended by about 40 men who all had had the op the age range varied from 43 to 82 so I too would urge all you guys to get tested regularly. Good luck Newton Abbot Gas you'll be up and about before you know it, all mended and ready to go!

Best wishes to both of you + kudos for posting to raise awareness.
My brother had the op about 3 years ago, and is doing fine.

A guy on our local news a few months ago was making men aware of this problem .....he was in his early 40's i think mate . The examination is not a problem .....you will be glad you have done it after.......I'm sure your GP can give you advice if you ask .

When I snapped my ACL and twisted my knee Cartlidge into a figure of eight my doctor told me there was nothing wrong with me, bit of swelling, man up. I played a few more football games with it and threw up in my mouth each game because of the pain. Dread to ask him to put his finger in my bum, probably use his fist.

I was diagnosed with benign prostate enlargement around my 50th birthday, thought at that age I should have the test done. It is uncomfortable (not as uncomfortable as the camera I had inserted to confirm the diagnosis), I would urge each and every one of you to get it done.
My wife is currently undergoing chemotherapy for preventative reasons and has lost all her hair, I thought I should come out in sympathy so did a charity head shave. Fifty percent to Prostate Cancer UK (my Companies current charity partner) and the other flirty percent to MacMillan cancer support. If and when you see me at the Mem that will explain my thug like appearance.
Afternote: I raised a total in excess of £1,500 to be split between the charities.
Good luck to you both in your individual recoveries.

I have always been TOTALLY "head in the sand" about this which is probably the most stupid thing anyone could do (especially as there is a history in the family). Thank you so much for posting, it has definitely pulled my head out of the sand and have made an appointment to get checked out.
True respect to you both and the very best of luck with everything.
PS: Have just talked to 2 mates who had the same thing - it was caught early, treated early and now, neither of them have any long term problems - I wish the same for you.
