Thw more that this disease is highlighted the better. I probably would never had mentioned it had Newton Abbott not started the thread. It is so vitally important that you guys get checked. Its no big deal and could end up saving people from future problems.

Good luck to NA and TB and a thumbs up to NA for the original post. I am 66 and had the check sometime ago, in fact took part in a trial a few years ago when living in Nailsea. Can only echo what has been said by others, definitely something not to be ignored, a friend of mine was diagnosed approx. a year ago and is doing very well and did not have to have an op.

Best of luck going forward, I am certain you will beat this thing. Thanks for highlighting the disease, being in my 60's perhaps I ought to get myself checked out.
As I say, best wishes for the future.

Did you get an undetectable psa result at the 1st attempt? Yes Tbone I did, what a good day that was. A tip I picked up along the way was to have a private test as they go down the scale lower than the NHS ones. I recommend Bristol Urology as they charge £60 wheras some charge £300. Just ring them up if you need one. These post op blood tests are really important as its by these results that they decide if you need further treatment, they are more accurate, so well worth the £60. Thanks for that info mate. I may do that.

Al is this the detection blood test or is this a post op blood test, reason im asking is ,if it's the detection test then can you post more details as in phone number and address of the tester, As i feel it may just encourage more people to get tested as £60 is to some a fortune but to a lot it's a night out, so it would be easier to just shell out get a blood test and not have to talk to yer own vet

There is no reason to go private for a detection test as the reading would be accurate as it would be higher up the scale. If anyone wanted to go private for any other reasons the number of Bristol Urology is 01179804118.

Also IMHO there is no need to go private for the op as its the same surgeons and they do a brilliant job on the NHS and if you need the op they are geared to do it as soon as necessary.

Hi NA and tbone. I took your advice and had a blood test on Tuesday and got the results back today ! I didn't realise it would be as quick as all that. Results are fine . I wish you every success and thank you for highlighting a serious issue that all too often is ignored.

You are so right to highlight this. A number of years ago I knew I had a problem but being the typical male ignored it until I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Two operations and a dose of chemo later I came out the other side. I sincerely hope your op goes well. Above all remain strong and be positive. Good luck to you.
