TBH i'm quite chuffed that we are this close to the season kicking off and there are only a few moans on the forum, christ look back a year or so there were enough complaints to wipe out the rain forest if printed ,this year a few minor gripes, so yes the new regime has indeed made some positive changes I just put the question to Wend about not speaking to the chairman her reply was so what i had a natter with daryl and the players, spoke to matteee, (or in the words of metallica nothing else matters) . I think most were there to speak to the boss and players ,natter with fans new n old. I'm sure for those with a chairman fetish( ) , there will probably be a q&a at some point You let your good Lady talk to Matty ? Dangerous game mate, dangerous game.

If SH had had the foresight to post on the club website something like: "Sadly I am unable to attend the Open Day due to an important meeting/playing golf/having a nap that day, but I hope it goes well and everyone has a great time", he could have dodged any criticism. I know that's hindsight on my part, but it's not rocket science to see that some people might ask why he didn't show without any explanation.

Bit like when he put out a few short statements in June over various things and got criticised for being too communicative? I dont see why a chairman has to be at the fun day or justify his absence. It's a fun day. For the kids to meet the players and such.

Ah, but you forget he's only been here around 6 months, which isn't long enough to appreciate the absolute sh*t that some of our fans will insist on sniping about. I doubt it even crossed his mind that grown men would bitch about the chairman of a company not attending what is essentially a children's meet and greet, so he still has much to learn.

Exactly this, these ramblings by some are ridiculous.

I suspect he kept a low profile in case he was asked any killer questions....like 'so, what's happening with the new stadium, Steve?'

Not wanting to be offensive but why would kids want to meet an old man in a suit ? .....well unless it's a red suit and he has a big white beard. That said he might of taken a half hour stroll around saying hello to a Few p ,he could have quite easily replied to "big" questions with a simple ,sorry I'm just keeping it light hearted today this isn't the occasion for serious questions.

No one wants one see the chairman, the kids want to see the players which is what the whole day is about. It's not a day for grilling the high management on things they dont/won't want to answer. It's a fun day yeah.

Hasn't been at any fun day I've been to. You wouldn't know a fun day if it smacked you in the face with a sticky sock. I spoke to Nick Higgs about 3 years ago at the fun day, always willing to chat if you were polite to him I found. All water under the bridge now.

Most kids don't even know what a chairman is. They wouldn't be interested in meeting him , he knows that and he's a busy man. I can't believe this thread to be honest it's laughable.

It's a fun day yeah. So you don't think that if he had turned up, some fans would have asked him about the stadium plans? I think they might. I don't even care that he wasn't there. But clearly some do. And two minutes of his time spent posting some good wishes for the day would have avoided some nonsense. It's called PR.

When Dr. Samuel Johnson published "A Dictionary of the English Language", he was lauded by all of 18th Century England for his great work. On one occasion a group of women asked for an audience with him. On meeting him they declared "Dr. Johnson, we would like to applaud you on your refrain from using any foul or indecent words in your new dictionary". To which he replied "And ladies, I would like to applaud you for your constant search for them". UTG! hmm that's nice, had a little tingle in me willy when reading that back. Bravo sir
