our man stu will do whatever the manager wants him to do to the letter, the total tw*** on here saying hes a headless chicken know nothing at all about football. at times in his rovers career stu has partnered lee mansell in a midfield 2 with both of them playing a subdued holding role very well at other times dc has told him to make a nuisance of himself and harrass opponents for fun. on sat v rochdale dc decided to play him at the front of a midfield diamond and roam while lines and boateng played and failed to play a holding role,if dc plays stu in a defensive midfield role preferably with lee mansell we might not see quite so many runners breaking from midfield against us. thing is stu and mansell know how to defend and right now we need that more than hollywood lines in our engine room imo I realise you're trying to defend a player you like but to attack another player (Lines) isn't the way to do it. They all need our support as they step up a level and find their feet. DC himself is still adapting to this division. Give all the lads a chance, if the last two seasons are anything to go by we will get stronger. Things are so much more positive at our club recently, let's not be the ones that become the negative. UTG Spot on. Both players have an important but different role to play - Sinclair covers a lot of ground and breaks down opposition play and actually rarely gives the ball away when he has it (so hardly a headless chicken). He is a solid player. Lines is a different player whose strength is in his creativity and surging runs from deep rather than his defending capabilities. Lines made a huge difference when he came on last night so whether you want to call it Hollywood or just doing his job, it nearly worked and if we had taken our chances and won last night both Lines and Sinclair would have played a significant part.

Conference run in, he's injured and we go up. Div1 run in, he's injured and we go up...........Lines can't play with him and be consistent, now Boeteng looks average. The problem with Sinclair is he does so much running off the ball the other midfielder has to hold his position covering Stuart. I've seen it so many times, Lines then goes out of the game, it's now Boeteng. Sincs gets the ball when others should have it. I like Sinclair but we won't win promotion out of this league with him starting and it's no coincidence we gained promotion while he was injured and Lines was our star man. The worry for my is Sincs will stop the Chelsea lad getting a game. The argument of he defends for us stacks up if you set up to defend. If we attacked from midfield more with creation we are not defending as much and the opposition are more worried about us. Their no10 was very good tonight, this could be Colkett for us but he won't be whilst we are giving medals and man of the matches out every week to a player running the most miles on the pitch. Most successful teams have a player who does all the donkey work, breaking down opposition attacks and covering ground in midfield - not known for creativity but equally as important in a balanced midfield. If you put all attacking midfielders the team is unbalanced

All this moaning about Sinclair, anyone going to mention Boateng was sh**e last night? Oh no of course it's Sinclair's fault!

Have you watched us away this season?
3-5-2 away and we've been over run, we lack creativity and we invite them onto us as at Swindon and Southend.

I've seen Brown play well enough at wing back over the past 2 seasons to know he's capable, higher division or not.

I'd get 3-5-2 and put it in the bin. We haven't got the players to make it work and would end up in a relegation battle if we used it every week. We've played 4-4-2 twice this season and they've been our best two performances and we've picked up 4 points in those two games. I hope we don't see 3-5-2 much sgain this season.
Every body knows their jobs and can do their jobs but in a 3-5-2 we haven't got a single natural wing back in the squad so we need to keep playing 4-4-2 with attacking full backs. That way we've got 2 wide men on each side overlapping and creating chances rather than one man on each wing running around like headless chickens chasing shadows and getting outnumbered whilst our 3 defenders um and err about who they're supposed to be marking. 3-5-2 has been a disaster this season how anybody can say it's been better than 4-4-2 is beyond me. If we're getting outnumbered in the middle we can always switch to 4-5-1 , that way we can have our 3 man midfield and still keep the wide men build up play which has been the main part of our success over these last 2 years.

Totally agree with this, we need a left wing back to play a 5 and Leads has also lost his confidence in this position.

One thing that has stood out much more this season is that the back 3 /4 have been giving the ball away too cheaply. So we are giving up possession more than we should. Then, if you don't put pressure on good players and good teams they'll have you for breakfast. It's a shame we don't have more Sinclairs and Taylors in the team - they work hard when they haven't got the ball and when they have it !

Right 73 re your posts................... Firstly let's explain it another way re your first one. Yes it's a long season and everyone helps gets points but most team win or lose promotion on the run in. In the Conference we only really got it going on the run in when Lines joined and he started to help us tick over in the middle. When we play well Lines usually plays well and helps us tickover. When we won 12 games on the trot at home it was done again with Lines driving us on without Sinclair at home. I don't think anyone can argue that Lines plays better when he's not in the team with Sinclair?
Now you mention Saturday, I watch the game closely and don't form an opinion on good every now and then. I worked out last season where Sincs plays better in midfield and that's in a 5 or narrow midfield of 4. Saturday we played 3-4-3 as DC said Monday. At Luton last season we played 5 in midfield and won and Sincs played well.........., the extra man means Lines or Boeteng have an extra man as well to cover them if they want to gamble as well. On Saturday Lee Brown was tucking in as well to cover Boeteng and Sincs but did you notice that left us short on the left flank which they exposed? I hope I've gone some way to explaining that with Sincs we struggle in a 4 man midfield with him and us using wingers, the other central player has to hold for him then. It's been proven every time Lines is dropped its when Sincs is also fit. I think the 4 posters who agreed with me can see what I am saying, I know SteveK watches us week in week out. Our best home performance of the season at home, our only win, m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37001052 work out this puzzle. The Oxford game was 12th home win on eve boucne equalling a record, of the previous Sincs was injured. We come to the 13th, Sincs is back in the midfield at home and we lose. Lines came on for last 30 mins - played well didn't he ? Who was alongside him in the middle ? Sinclair I believe.

Anybody else feel DC's made an error in signing two creative CM's when we really needed another defensive CM as cover?
I agree Boateng had a stinker last night, perhaps,2 games in a week was 1 to many. I wonder how Ozumar cost Walsall compared to James from P'boro??

Haven't been able to read whole thread but...
If people haven't yet worked out that the Beard is in there for a certain job then they need to do a bit more thinking.
Whatever any of us think of the beard he is doing a certain role, just like many others have done in the past.
It's not a simple as 'he's rubbish' or 'he's brilliant'.
He is the beard and he is omnipotent.

Have ye not learned from these previous years from twenty hundred and twelve to this current year of our Lord twenty hundred and sixteen?
Have yet forgotten the futility of picking formations and systems where he hath not considered the formations of the hordes of foes? Doth ye forget the ignorance of McGoo, who in his sin neglected to look at the foes evil tactics?
Sinclair hath his righteous place primarily in a midfield of a trinity of men. This holy tripartite of midfield doth require a beast of burden to carry yon triumvirate through troubling times.
Stuart, 18th earl of Sinclairshire is not noted for his positional consistency in a midfield of two men, and two men only. But, hath thee not forgotten the miraculous legs which carry the team through the valley of darkness? When vanquishing enemies with immobile and slow central men of the mid meadow, the bearded one may still become part of the holy union between one midfielder and one other alone.
