Fan: "Mr Hamer! Never expected to see you on a train with the fans!" SH: "I am a fan too, fellow Gashead!" Fan: "Great! Can I sit here? <Fan does not wait for answer.> Fan: "Mr Hamer, now you might not want to answer this, but what da f*ck is going on with UWE?" <SH hesitates.> Fan: "Steve, mate, you can tell me. After all we're all fans. And I assure you anything you tell me will be between the two of us!" <SH hesitates, contemplates pressing the emergency button, but composes himself.> SH: "Rest assured that negotiations continue and an announcement will be made at the right time." Well, I didn't know you were on the train and ear-wigging my conversation. I really must be more careful next time. I seem to recall the conversation happening differently to this, but of course I must be mistaken. Christ on a bike!

Who said they don't want to spend? They can afford Easters wages, but financial fair play means we have to move players on, so we can bring more in. They cleared debts, bought the new training ground and are paying people like the ex Wembley man to work on the clubs behalf. They are spending what they are allowed and that's why they want the new ground. It will generate more money, allowing them to spend more on wages. How can DC say last month he only had a bottom 8 budget but SH now say we're in danger of going over budget but gates are highest they've ever been and we've the £300/400K from the Chelsea game, something doesn't add up. As far as clearing our debts arent they just now lying with Dwane Sport but at least now manageable, we haven't bought the new training ground just yet as contact won't be exchanged until the 3 Feb, the ex Wembley guy as long gone. As far as spending what they are allowed surely they are spending what they want to, there's no control over what they want to donate to the club.

I might be mistaken so please feel free to correct me but my understanding of FFP is that it's calculated from turnover which surely means figures would be last year's ? If that's the case wouldn't the Chelsea money & increased gates be part of next year's budget hence the reason we're operating with a bottom 8 budget ?

Fans said that before, so I tweeted Wael and he said he was still working away at it. I assumed he was one of the people trying to get the best deal for us with Uwe. Maybe I am wrong, do you know for a fact he has gone??? If he has, who is working on it now?

I didn't find that too bad an interview.
If you read between the lines, I hear that everything is positive and UWE have made changes to their site so we need to work through that impact to the stadium.
There are probably many sticking points but I think Hamer is saying that he can't say yes, but it's looking good.
If he had doubts or we were in a hard ball situation, he would say we have some difficulties and have a back up plan.
I often ask my directors for developments and we get these types of answers. This is a university after all, it will be death by committee for every decision by people who struggle making decisions.

I listened after reading this thread so was concerned about what I was about to hear. As it happened I thought whilst he was defensive over UWE I read that as being more guarded in his language rather than covering up problems. He definitely referred to us being a private Ltd Company (not Plc) and I for one am pleased we are not kicking out the team that play on the training ground at the moment. Looking forward to seeing what they plan to build if they are looking at Fleetwood's training academy.

Only skim read but for those interested we do seem to run one season in arrears. The accounting period is that of the club, not necessarily a football season, which could include up to June. We also need to provide an estimate for the season coming up with ongoing monitoring. Quite a few useful definitions further down on what is included and what is not. www.efl.com/global/appendix5.aspx

HG will no doubt confirm the position but I doubt there's been anything new built or planned at the UWE that hasn't always been on their master plan?

Don't think he actually said anything apart from he's still hopeful but it could go t1ts up if a deal not done by August

Why would he, for all we know it's the UWE or the highway as far as Weal's concerned?

Why would he, for all we know it's the UWE or the highway as far as Weal's concerned? I hear the sky is also falling in! That was not an interview with someone who was softening the blow of disappointment. The truth is Hamer does not know. Wael does not know. UWE don't know. We are in discussions. Something will give. That could be no stadium, it could be new stadium. Until it's agreed it is just a big ?. What you describe is possible but I'll face that if it happens. To me it's the genuine opinion of a man who is conceding we have work to do and agreements to make before finalising a deal but is hopeful and feels it's likely to be done. There is nothing more to it than that. Usually when negotiating you push for scenario A while accepting scenario B as an outcome. Whatever deadlock we may be in is most likely a stand off that we know we can resolve. The future is bright until I am told "no stadium". I am willing to look a wally as even if I knew it was off, I couldn't do anything to influence so why not look at the bright side?

"The truth is Hamer does not know. Wael does not know. UWE don't know"
Hopefully somebody knows! Wael, or who ever is acting for him no,w will know the maximum the Al-Q's will pay, the UWE the minimum they will accept, whether we can agree a deal or not we'll find out in the next 6 months, given Wael told Gasincider the UWE were asking for millions more something will have to give if we are going to agree a deal, the fact Hamer says not to expect weekly updates suggests this will go to the wire.
