Sorry, but NO government changes tax policy to make things 'easier' for anyone. They do it so they can grab more money......more money for them means less money for you. It really is that simple.

Any reduction or change in the Council Tax will have to be rebalanced from elsewhere. Overall taxes won't go down.

On one side, we have had reductions in police and the armed forces, lost capabilities such as maritime patrol aircraft and aircraft carriers.
On the other we have a leader and top team (sic) opposed to MI5, Trident, shoot to kill and pro Hamas, Irish Republicanism.

Maybe LVT would result in more money being grabbed from mass areas of unused land in the UK, while making life easier for everyone with one property worth less than £1m? The way Council Tax operates now is grossly unfair, LVT is more progressive. Lots support its implementation on both sides.

I didn't believe in life after death, until I saw Theresa May.

The way Council Tax operates now is grossly unfair, LVT is more progressive. Lots support its implementation on both sides. If farmland is taxed that would lead to an increase in food prices, affecting everyone. The rental value of farmland is relatively low, often due to it being in remote areas. LVT would be a replacement tax, not an additional one. If it was done on rental values, it would have minimal effects on small farm owners or those renting - many would gain as a result. Again, like with residential properties, the main losers would be owners of mass areas of idle land. If anything farming would become more profitable on a smaller scale. An increase in competition is therefore possible. EDIT: To be honest this whole conversation backs up the earlier point that the Daily Mail/Sun/Express turning complex ideas into soundbites doesn't help anyone.

As for council tax, it might not be the greatest but its based on 1994 house prices is it not. My house has gone up in value by about 100k in 3 years dud to rennovation and general increase in prices. Its not like it has dragged me into a higher council tax band

If you need cheering up, have a look at the person who may be Home Secretary in 72 hours time on Sky last night. news.sky.com/video/diane-abbott-tries-to-talk-about-counter-terror-review-10905600Corbyn wanting the PM to resign over the London attacks then backtracks, Trump in a Twitter spat with the Mayor of London and deliberately misquoting (again). Are there any politicians with some form of gravitas anymore?

I'm starting to wonder if this election will result in all parties losing.
TM gets a majority but not significant and not the mandate she was after, cue the backstabbing.
Labour get close enough for JC to stay and not 'step down with dignity', the Labour backbenchers get twitchy and maybe leave or are ousted.
LibDems don't have a revival as they should expect.
SNP stay the largest party in Scotland by some margin but lose enough to no longer have a viable mandate for IndyRef2. With momentum lost they then lose more MSPs in the Holyrood elections in 2021.
NI stay divided, Greens may get one or two more MPs but overall lose votes, PC no improvement, UKIP lose greatly.
I'm thinking of forming a party called "None of the Above", I may get elected by default.

I see she called off an interview this morning on 'Womens Hour', claiming illness. The real Home Secretary turned up for the television debate 48 hrs after her Father died.

I think the Polling companies have now designed their models to be so complicated that they are disappearing up their own backsides ! For example, the Survation polls apparently are based on a 94% turnout for the 18-24 age group. This is the polling company that reckons that Labour are just one point behind the Tories. It is pretty easy to see the one large error in that forecast, which makes the whole Poll worthless.

Ignoring policies for a second, i think Amber Rudd has come across pretty well, in the wake of Manchester and stepping up for the TV argument. I could see her being the next conservative leader.

She has done well in the last few weeks, although I was not impressed by her in the build-up to the Brexit vote. I thought she was pretty poor there. I quite like the way David Davis comes across. He comes from a council estate, so avoids the posh toff claims. He's ex 21 SAS and he held a real job before becoming a politician.

You do have to wonder what it is about her, that`s helped propel her to the forefront of the Labour party.
