A few here missing the point

They’re playing for the shirt and Coughlan did that and that’s what successful teams do

Those bed wetters blasting on about DC’s “style of play” seem to forget that very few ever played for the shirt cos they had no idea if they would be wearing it next week

Coughlan got results. Coughlan did good business. Coughlan was prepared to give the youngsters a go . He’s a ballsy man . And now he’s gone

I don’t care why cos it’s immaterial now to me as a gas head

But when we slide down to mid table mediocrity from the heady heights of where we are now ask whether the team are playing for the shirt or adapting to playing some “attractive” football the next manager thinks he can coax from this squad

We’re not Man City . We don’t have the attractiveness inherent. There’s just a bloody minded mentality built up. We win games. We’re hard to beat. I like that

Good luck to Coughlan. Yes you could have shown a bit more class. Yes you’ve now shown to be a bit of a hypocrite with one thing or another . Let’s hope that whatever it’s all about he’s left a legacy of true grit pervading the dressing room. I reckon he might just have done that.

Theres been end a lot of activity recently from the press regarding GC and his support of the academy and the current opportunities that break through youth are encountering right now 

personally I think it’s brilliant that GC is actively engaging with the academy production line , with the recent success of Kilgour and now the next crop looking like breaking through its very healthy environment for the young lads 

Kieran Phillips appears to be the real deal, I watched the u18 match on Tuesday night and IMO his quality shone through amidst a less than impressive team performance. He has blistering pace , a cannon of a shot and holds the ball up well. Playing alone up front for 90mins he killed an unstoppable free kick from 18 yards which ultimately proved to be the winner sending the 18s into the third round of the youth FA Cup 

Will he get any minutes this weekend ?

And once thing to mention about GC

He’s looking long and hard at the academy something I know DC never did

There’s some nuggets in there and he will spot them , give them a chance and the rest is up to them

Expect to see some minutes for the young u18 striker Phillips v Bromley

Back for Sunderland is the target

I was there today

I missed the first goal but got the second OG

I could sum it up by saying that there were some good individual performances but was a poor team performance in terms of possession and ball retention

The only player I thought was under par was Upson, the rest had at least average performances but without quite gelling as a team to compliment the individual strengths

Was a 4-5-1 formation with Adeboyejo taking the brunt of the dogging work up top, he was shot by 70 mins and was pleased to exchange with Smith and was rewarded with a generous round of applause

Gas were definitely hanging on for last 20 but held out well with Jaakola having an outstanding game

Ollie Clark looking much more like the article from last season imo

Away crowd were noisy for the most part, Dale fans not so much

Thought Dale were actually a tidy team that wanted to play football

Gate was just under 4000

Three point smash n grab and well worth 7 hours in the motor
