Got to admit the interview didn't exactly inspire me with a greal deal of confidence. I believe we've been sold fown the river a bit with Hamer saying we have a top 6 budget.
Whatever the budget though, I trust DC to spend it wisely. Just want to show progression/more ambition than last season.

Love DC and this club but... every year were caught out by the fact that players, clubs and agents are greedy bstrds who want as much from us as humanly possible. I guess we're the only club prepared to let our talent go cheap. (hopefully this recurring theme ends with these owners). I don't accept the Gas have been caught out. Clubs are a business and so they want to buy cheap and sell expensive. They are there to make money. For managers football is a career and pays the mortgage. They are given a budget by the Club and have to keep within it mostly or it costs them their job. I don't know a single manger who doesn't want more money. Agents "in theory " are looking after the best interest of players as well as earning a living themselves. Players start off young and want the fame but as they get older the thought of money kicks in. Its a short career so they must make hay whilst the sun shines. As the signing on window gets nearer to closing and teams begin to fill players will drop their wage demands and bargins start to materialise. For fans football is a social club and entertainment. For the most part they seems to be impressed by the amount of money paid for players. They seem to think that gives them more entertainment. As far as Rovers are concerned which players stand out for you. Barry Hayles, Jason Roberts, Paul Randall, Jamie Cureton, Ian Hollaway, Nigel Martin, Nicky Tanner, John Scales, Gary Mabbutt, Gary Penrice, M-t-y T-y-r, Sinclair, The Duke etc where was the big money in any of those players. Not sure but don't think they cost a penny between them. Great players and great entertainment. There are more of these type of player that have made good than those who cost big sums of money. Either Wael has used Clarke as a rope a dope or thing are seriously on the up at Rovers. I have my season ticket and look forward tovthe season. Wether that is promotion or not I don't know but I think I will be entertained that's for sure.

Does anyone think Hamer may have shot us in the foot by telling the press they'd given DC a top six budget? Could be why DC is surprised by wage demands etc..

Some people on here drive me mad. I haven't posted properly in God knows how long, but the constant negativity/moaning/complaining has driven me to comment.
After watching DC's interview, how can anyone be worried? The guy is relaxed, buoyant and positive. If he was frustrated in his transfer attempts we'd be able to tell, because DC is rubbish at hiding his emotions. The fact he is in a good mood and talks so optimistically about the future progression of the club says it all.
To the people complaining about our first team signings: he says he is excited about who we are wanting to bring in. This suggests we haven't missed out on any (or at least very few) of his preferred targets. He says he'll bring in 7 or 8 by the end of August (hopefully many of them will be in before the start of the season). With Liam Sercombe added to that, it would make 9 signings plus, as he says, money saved for a rainy day in January. We'll be getting two experienced goalkeepers in the building, so those worrying about that position shouldn't be concerned!
[To SteveK who mentioned about losing Hartley - it's blatantly obvious DC doesn't care one iota that we've lost him. We have Lockyer, Partington, Burn and J. Clarke who can all play centre half and he wants to add a left footed CB too. That is surely more than enough cover to start the season with?]
To those moaning about the budget 'clearly not being top six as was said in May': what are you on about? DC says we won't compete with the big spenders, aka the Blackburn's of this world who are spending massive fees and wages on players. If you ever thought we'd compete with them you are smoking something. It doesn't mean we don't have a top six budget (and even then, Hamer said that DC 'thought' it would be a top six budget when he was given the figure, not that it was guaranteed) so stop reading so negatively into everything. The smile on DC's face during the interview tells me he's happy with what he's got.
To the people moaning about potential loan signings: we all know DC doesn't like relying on loan signings - he's said this numerous times in the past. But find me any club at this level who won't have a few loan signings this coming season. I bet you can't. By the sounds of it we are interested in players who have taken part in the Euro U21 Championships, which suggests they are of a very decent calibre. City signed one last year and look what he did for them. You have to utilise the loan market well and DC knows this, so those who are absolutely, totally, unbelievably against loan signings just have to get over it.
To those moaning that we aren't producing our own young players by taking youngsters on loan: we are quite literally in the process of building our own U21/23 side. This with the purpose of, you guessed it, producing our own young players. It doesn't happen overnight and we have to put the time in before we reap the rewards. DC says we have 14(?) U21s on trial with the view to joining Chris Hargreaves' young team and that's an encouraging start. It shows we're taking that side of things seriously.
I don't for the life of me understand the negativity after watching that interview. Trust the greatest manager in our recent history (if not ever) and let him get on with his job. Rant over, I'll go back to observing now.

What your budget is and what you spend are two completely different things. So it is possible to have a top 6 budget without being one of the biggest spenders.

Some of our best players have come from non-league. Barry Hayles, Nathan Ellington, Dave Pritchard, Devon White, Nigel Martyn, Gary Penrice, Paul Randall, Steve White, David Williams, Nicky Tanner and even further back Stuart Taylor, Geoff Bradford, Harry Bamford, Jackie Pitt, Peter Hooper and Bobby Jones.

Look. I'm far from a negative posted and yes DC is positive
However, I am disappointed. I don't like it when goalposts are moved. Steve Hamer has said we have a top 6 budget. If we are only going to sign 7/8 players (some on loan) then I highly doubt we will be in the top 6 in terms of budget. I would be surprised if we are even top half.
It would be nice to get off to a good start for a change this season.

Said we won't be near the big spenders in this league. Contradicts his top-6 budget comment doesn't it? How does it? The 3 biggest spenders might be 10X everyone else.

Take those rose tinted glasses off i myself think we'll be fighting relegation this season ( hope not and I will be at most games ) but we always seem very slow and uninformed on anything happening at the club remember without the fans the club would no longer be.

Not sure what the fuss is about.

Haven't posted for a while however been catching up everyday, like everyone looking forward to who we sign and the start of the new Season, good to DC and as always his passion and honesty shines through. As a life long fan like many on here I am enjoying the current epoch and long may it continue, I would ask that we suspend judgement on what may or may not be happening until we see who joins and how the team starts, DCs talent is not necessarily who we sign but what he gets out of them and that's the fascinating piece for me. Enjoy the rest of the summer UTG
