Yeah, can't believe we can't outbid rangers... Sorry misread your original post. Tired eyes. Stand by what i said though, i can only see us picking unnattached and loans. But we've had it confirmed by another chairman that we have offered money for a player. For all we know- we offered 80m for Nicholls. An aside: This Peterborough offer - I'm confused. It was reported that we bid for him, and we loose out to a 'free transfer.'

If nobody comes in today then with the team off to Portugal there is a very good chance nobody will come in next week. I'd have thought that DC would have liked to go to Portugal with key signings on the 'plane .............bonding, 'getting to know you', training together etc...................

Yes, that is odd. Here let me give you £100k for LJ. No thanks, we're giving him away for free.

I see the FIFA 17 boys are out in force this morning! It's so easy buying players on Xbox that DC can't possibly be doing his job properly! There will still be plenty of professional footballers without contracts signed that we will have a chance with! DC stated ages ago that all footballers can do the basics - the rest is about attitude and desire. There may not be many Billy Bodins, but plenty of Stuart Sinclairs - we've got the best one because of his desire to play the game! Because of this I'm not convinced that you need to be buying players from other clubs - there are hundreds of pro's out of contract every year. I'm happy that DC appears to be sticking to his guns and looking for the right players (who wants to sign players like O'Toole again?!). Be patient - footballers don't like not having a contract at this time of year - especially those with mortgages to pay. If they aren't based in the South West, they'll soon move if the mortgage needs paying in August! UTG!

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40593280Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer says high wage demands are making it more difficult to sign players in the summer transfer window. The Tangerines have brought in seven new faces so far this summer, with Jimmy Ryan the latest addition. But Bowyer, 46, says recruiting has become harder since they were promoted back to League One. "It's all part and parcel of the chase and we're doing okay at the moment," he told BBC Radio Lancashire. "We do realise that we're competing in a league now where the salaries have gone up a hell of a lot from League Two. "You get excited because you've been offered the chance to sign a player but you get deflated very quickly when you hear his wage demands." Being unable to pay players high wages has forced Bowyer to look at taking players on trial. He continued: "You've got to keep your options open. Competition for players at this moment in time is frantic, and if players are available on trial, it's something I'm not opposed to doing. "It gives you the chance to look at them at close quarters before you actually commit to a contract."

You'd probably be moaning that they're all on the cheap and that's you'd rather we brought in more quality over quantity. We can never win

If we can just get two strikers on par with the goalies I'd be happy.

I'm amazed that BRFC's record signing was a mere circa £400k for some player back in the 80s (can't remember - Tilson? Someone please confirm) and haven't signed anyone even close to that since; over 30 years ago?! I can't see DC spending half that, so we don't have a top 6 budget do we. 90's, think it was 375 grand? but yeah was for Tilson

Definitely was Andy Tillson as regards a transfer fee but we have to remember that the wages now take up a lot of money so whilst the actual transfer fees may not be beaten the clubs wage bill surely will. Good point. Still think the Gas is money tight and there I was thinking we had billionaire owners. Evolution, not revolution... blah blah The only people who said we have Billionaire owners are The Bristol Post (Who know feck all) and those that believed it

If we can just get two strikers on par with the goalies I'd be happy. What strikers released by Northampton and Blackpool in the summer to replace MT who was sold for £300K and probably worth £1m+? If that's all the ALQ's can come up if then they should stop their spokesman talking nonsense about a top 6 budget, when the truth seems to be we still have, at best, a mid table budget.

No... i read that as seasoned professionals from either L1 or L2 not the clubs. Incredibly it now seems we were so out of touch with the transfer values ( perhaps the Snake episode was the first indication of this) that our top six budget was a farce and we cannot even tempt L2 strikers to the club. We smirked at Steves post about the timing of the Portugal trip but maybe he was right ... team bonding and a likely battering from Hull are the least of our concerns as things stand.

I read that article and thought it probably mirrored our problems trying to sign players, even the bit about looking at trialists made sense.

Totally agree, you would think after being mugged off by the sh** for our only striker at the time capable of striking the ball in the net, we would be busting a nut to get new strikers in. Currently i worry that we have a team with no goals in it other than Bodin from midfield and Sercombe on reputation that could chip in with a few.

I believe the 2 keepers we got in are as good as you are going to get in L1. So yeah.

I think the reason progress is slow is because we are after decent players. I'd rather get 4 or 5 decent quality signings over 6 or 7 panic buys. The four really important signings for me are 2 x CF 1 x CB and a RM. If we can add quality in these positions and do the rest in loans then I think we will be competitive in L1. It seems the present owners are not going to be held to ransom over wages, so its probably a question of which club blinks first over money for their top targets.
