Few people have embarrassed themselves here Do you mean "a few people" or "not many people"?

I'm happy with the debate Hugo. Like you said education is the only real solution.

I heard it at Charlton. Unbelievable really. And all the mealy mother excuses for this stuff is just as unbelievable. I am not walking on eggshells at all. Anyone who refers to me in foul language about my colour, race or creed is a racist, pure and simple. To me personally or anyone else.Accusing others of PC madness is just an excuse. As is the charge made at authorities for not chasing down, naming and shaming paedophiles, its not PC, its incompetence. I really didn't want to get drawn on this one but I'm going to have to disagree on your last point. To call the level of covering up of the abuses suffered and shutting down of the voices of those victims incompetence is to absolve a great many people of serious wrong doing on, what I'm sure will become, a criminal level and robs the victims of those further wrongs (on top of the abuses they've suffered) of a legitimate grievance against those who did the covering and quieting. They were actively wrong not passively incompetent. I completely understand your point, but I choose to presume innocence (until proven guilty) and therefore assume incompetence. But you may well be quite right

My wife's cat used to be black, but it's started greying around the edges now. Her cat? You really mean her cat? Cat / pussy it's all the same really.

This whole thread has gone massively off-topic (myself included so apologies for that). Whether your opinion is that the world has gone "PC mad" or not, I'm sure this is not a case of that. All players will take some stick from their own fans and opposition fans at some point in their career. I'm sure that a number of the Rovers players took some stick on Saturday because of how poor the performance was, Ellis included. Ellis has without doubt taken more stick than any other Rovers player this last couple of years, I'm sure he or any fan is not now going to turn around and call someone racist just because they have given him some abuse about his performance. Therefore, I'm 90% certain that the racist claim is an accurate one.
Although it is disappointing that it wasn't reported and the fan ejected at the time, it is a positive sign that someone has now reported the incident to the club. Hopefully the club can identify the person and punish them accordingly (lifetime ban would be justified in my opinion). Sorry this is rubbish a few people have come out and said they've heard someone shout that Ellis is a 'black lady garden' Agree that its a good step it got reported, but it takes a lot of balls to confront someone you don't know (potentially drunk) spouting that kind of sh**e. Firstly, why has the 90% certain comment upset you? I wasn't there to hear it, nor have I seen anyone say that they know exactly what the article is referring to, so I can't say for sure that it happened? Secondly, I never said that the person should've been confronted, I said it could've been reported at the time. And nor did I call anyone gutless for not doing it. It's like you're arguing for arguments sake now.

Not so much a joke, but making the exact point that many people actually are that ignorant. Education is the key, not blame and shame. The education today is so left wing that it is pretty much useless. They are told who to vote for, what demo to attend, etc but they can hardy read or write. That is not going to help anyone. Oh my god, really?

But reporting at the time still involves getting in touch with a steward and pointing the person out. I didn't say you said anyone was gutless, just pointed out it took balls to do that.

What the hell is wrong with some people? The issue raised, quite rightly, by the club was one of racist comments made by some at Charlton & on Saturday. Are the club right to address this? Yes as it's against the law to direct racial abuse at anyone. Why some want to turn this on its head is beyond me, it's nothing to do with being pc or the fact racism works both ways - simply it's wrong & needs to be stamped out. Let's hope we all have the balls to out these individuals if we hear them!!

Once, just once it would be nice to read balanced arguments that respects all views regardless of whether offense is taken, where anger is taken out of it, with no finger pointing and no blame so that we can get a better understanding of how everyone has arrived at their opinions. That way we'd have a fighting chance of making the world a better place. Too much to expect I suppose. I get your point Hugo, but in this case racism is racism - the question is should this abuse be allowed? The answer is quite clearly no. If people want to highjack the thread & have a debate on racism then perhaps the thread should be moved. I am all for debate & listening to different views but in this case no. If there are any black members on the forums the way how this debate has gone COULD offend them, why should they respect views that are offensive?

Fair point, I suppose I was just assuming that we would all be agreed that it's wrong and anyone shouting that stuff should be banned. Within a few posts the PC argument was raised and I thought that's the more important and pertinent thing to discuss since the original point was a no brainer. The reason I suggest that all views be respected is because I personally think that's the best way to challenge people. Nothing changes from direct conflict because understanding is seldom achieved that way. It doesn't help to know if 2 people hate one another, but it's vital to know why.

Think all that needs to be said has been said (along with some things that didn't need to be said). Totally see (and agree) with Hugo's post above. However, I think we can all agree this WAS racism - and that simply isn't okay on any level; there's no debating that part of it. If people want to continue the alternate "PC" debate then they are more than welcome to do so in the General sub-forum.
