DC picks the wrong team, and then picks the wrong formation. Sometimes he changes it at half time, and sometimes he gets it right. At the end of the day, he is responsible, and he knows it.

Tom is quality, has great feet and will come good, he was a good finisher before, give him some chances and he will score. Now Ellis is not the scapegoat, our fans are lining him up, much better than James. TN was put clean though on goal in the first half but didn't even manage a shot before he was tackled, somehow he's become another LJ, a striker who never even has a decent shot at goal let alone scores. And yet, he got into that position where he was one on one. He forced a good save from a header on Saturday, he forced a fantastic save against Oldham, hit the post against Bradford. Couple of good positions against Wolves. Difference between TN and LJ is their ability to get into scoring positions. LJ got nowhere near in 20 games. TN will get goals if given a chance up front, sure of it.

In interviews and this diamond club dinner Q&A dc has more than hinted that we could not compete in the transfer/wages market. with nichols its speculation but he would have known he wasnt an out and out goalscorer. Well, if DC spent £300k knowing he would not score goals regularly then that was a bloody stupid signing. He could have looked at out of contract players and paid bigger wages and saved on the £300k transfer fee. Your simply misquoting me though as i said hes not an out and out goalscorer. He has been a 12 goal a season type player which is fine as long as 1 or 2 others are as well. Sad that people are slagging him off instead of backing him.

Every single attack ended with Nichols loosing the ball. He's absolute gash and a little boy who was scared of Peterborough fans.

Not 12 goals a career?

So do you think he will get 12 goals this season? I really hope he does but I'd say the chances of double figures this season are slim which is obviously disappointing for the lad, the club and the fans. Do you have any suggestions on what could be done to help? Could formations be changed to accommodate his style of play? Will he be better on cold wet winter nights? Is he a significant improvement on James? Was £300k a good price to pay? I'm not slagging the lad off and really hope things come good but on the evidence so far I would always prefer someone a bit more sturdy than he appears to be. Anyway let keep our fingers crossed that he hit of form and proves the doubters wrong. Reminds me of 'Shadow' Williams if you remember the late 60's.

I reckon he will come good Tom's a good footballer and will get at least a dozen, patience gasheads we've been waiting 55 years and more for a new ground so a goal from Tom is just around the corner or from a corner shall I say.

I didnt mean you were slagging him off but some are, williams is slightly before my time though i think i saw him play against us for reading?. Its still too early for me to judge the questions you put about the player but he badly needs a goal for his confidence.

So in a dozen or so games the nearest he's come to a goal is hitting the post re Bradford, a virtually identical stat to LJ!

Didn't DC say somewhere that he doesn't go for the top names on the goal scoring charts that everyone else is looking to buy, as they are invariably overpriced, but looks for the players who are showing potential with a view to improving them on the training pitch. I don't think it's all down to budget either as I'm pretty sure that DC likes to roll that way, getting value for money, which, in light of the immoral sums being paid in the top tier, is highly commendable.
I am acutely aware that football is a results based business, but I'm also fairly sure that DC didn't promise to effect the kind of change he was talking about immediately. Give TN a reasonable chance, like a whole season, to show what he can do. Others have needed a year to settle in before kicking on. After all, he's only just come through the Memorial gates.

The legend that is Rickie Lambert had a very slow start to his Gas career, recall on of the East Terrace idiots calling him a fat lazy barsteward. Remember how it went for him at the Gas, I am not saying Tom will have the same impact but a little bit of patience from some quarters maybe required. No bolloxs lest just sack the useless twat now

Can we afford to have strikers playeing who don't even look like scoring, especially as we tumble down the table?
I'd sooner have Gaffney playing with Ellis (not in a 4-4-3!!) and Nichols can come on as sub like he did at Bradford and look to have an impact, then if he starts impressing more he may start.
The ironic thing is that Nichols is probably on more money than both his strike partners.

Our "under performing" center backs are currently both out scoring Nichols.
How much more time does he need?

We are missing the skin shedding Serpant he was a good player for us BUT from what I seen of Dom Telford last Saturday we have a ready made replacement if only he would be given the chance! Yeah I like the look of him a lot . I'd really like to see Gafney and Telford start in a 4-4-2 this Saturday.

We are currently carrying too many underachievers in the first team squad.

I thought Moore looked lively (yes I said lively!!) against Blackpool until he got taken off, certainly one of the few looking to take on his man,
Is there any reason Telford cannot play on the left?
