Time for him to sit a couple out and someone else (i.e Gaffney or Telford) to be given more of a chance IMO.
I like Nichols and there's definitely a decent player in there, but that's now 14 games in all competitions without a goal or assist (I believe?) this season.
You can tell that he's technically good and I'm sure that all he needs is a goal to get himself going and boost his confidence a bit, but we need some end product from our 3 attackers and atm we're getting none from Tom.
Gaffney has started the season brightly and has a few goals to his name (although I know he missed tonight through injury) and Telford hasn't really been given another chance since impressing v Wycombe in the cup, so I'd like to see one of those now play up top with Ellis and Bodin for the next couple of games.
I realise our main issue is defensively, but that doesn't mean we can't look to get more out of other areas of the team as well.

He's got a manager who plays him anywhere but upfront.
Pitman wasn't playing on the wing or in midfield tonight and he got 2 goals.
I would hate to be a striker for us right now, you are either dropped every other game or asked to play out on the wing.
This is all DC's fault because he never replaced Montano and signed wide men

The failure to replace Montano and add competition for the ineffective Moore is very poor for me. I know we don't exactly play with wingers, but it would be nice to have the opportunity to mix it up now and again and play that way where required.

I'd be looking to add one or two in January, even if it means moving someone on.

I hope dc gives telford or dunwald a go at being that player, why not?

We could've spent an extra 100k and got the now top scorer in our league. Dunnwald's previous experience and record doesn't suggest he is ready yet, but I've only seen him once in a full 90 minutes game. Telford has looked decent everything I've seen him and probably worth a start now IMHO.

Plymouth on Saturday, so being an ex Exeter player, hopefully he can kick start his gas career against them!

That's about it.

Right now he doesn't look any better than Luke James. Puts a lot of effort in and has been a bit unlucky at times. I am amazed we haven't seen more of Gafney. He has looked decent in the bits he has played and has scored goals.

I guess DC has been wanting to give what he seen as his first choice strikeforce a chance to bed in and get some goals. Not really worked out like that though unfortunately.

Do you know who DC really wanted or are you just speculating? Seems to me he though Nichols was the answer or why else did he spend £250k to £300k to secure him?

Nothing wrong in giving a player a rest though if they are off form. Nichols does have some excellent work rate and technically he's a very good footballer but I think he's more the type of player that thrives off of a target man in a 442 set up.

He has looked decent in the bits he has played and has scored goals. I`d rather have Luke James. He never stopped running and creating space for others, even if he never looked like scoring himself. From what I`ve seen, Nichols offers us practically nothing. Worst buy, since I forked out two hundred quid for that Morris Marina.

For me, the system we currently play (433) just doesn't suit him. He's not the type of striker who's going to lead the line and he doesn't have the pace or strength to be a weapon as one of the wide strikers in that setup IMO. As mentioned by Pirate above, the biggest failure was not bringing in a winger to replace Montano, meaning someone like Nichols almost HAS to play out wide.

I watched Tom play last night and did a awful lot of work in Midfield trying to cover some of the woeful work by the Midfield pair
