If he goes, he goes. If he does, it had better be for a sh** load of money. Can't see anyone paying a sh** load of money for a injury prone third division player Injury prone? I can't recall him being out injured much whilst with us? Bearing in mind pretty much any player will get hamstring injury at some point in their careers. I know he had problems before us but injury prone is an exaggeration.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread about that lot south of the river and that "agreement" after Taylor switched.
Does it only cover first teamers moving between the clubs or could they still nick one of our promising youngsters?

Hamer says BB has had a contract offer for the last 4 weeks and my guess is that if there have been no further discusions then he sees his future elsewhere. The trouble is the wage difference between league 1 and Championship is huge and the best offer we could make will be a lot less than he can get elsewhere. Perhaps offering a buy-out clause might help but otherwise I think selling him if the right offer comes in is best and just hope DC spends the money wisely. Suspect £300k- £400k is most we will be offered which is probably less than half his market value with a long contact with us. Only hope of a biggish fee is a bidding war if several clubs really want him. If DC spends (read wastes) it on another Nichols type player we may as well keep BB until the summer and then let him leave on a free, unless we get a silly offer. Hopefully his goals will keep us in Div 1, then DC can rebuild the squad in the summer.

Sorry but it's really started to f me off losing any potential stars over and over again, I can see why people support the other lot, at least they always have a possibility of getting into the prem. I know it's the rovers way and I've followed for years but I'm a strong believer of progression, of you're not progressing you're going backwards!

City will lose their stars as well eventually, its just football, there's always another club that can offer bigger wages and compete at higher levels. Progression isn't a word associated with Bristol Rovers all that often but with a bright young manager and two promotions behind us, perhaps we can finally see progression. Just consolidation first!

If he has any ambition at all, he'll be gone. And I for one wouldn't blame him. If he listened to hamer on Thursday, he's probably already packed his case. Unfortunately this great club isn't going anywhere fast. Bye bye billy😩

So what's your solution to retain for potential stars? There is no solution, of course. If they're good, they go. Just like the situation at most other L1 and L2 clubs, apart from the few rich ones. Which doesn't include us. If we get big money for those players, it allows us to rebuild, so it's not all bad. But £500k buys nothing much. I mean big money, like the fees received for Hayles, Roberts and Lambert (although he was a bargain for Saints). Where did all those millions go, by the way? I've often wondered.

With so little time left on his contract i think rovers will take £300k for bodin. Ellis has an undisclosed contract,if hes half way through a 1 year deal i think about £250k would be enough. On the bright side that would lower our annual losses considerably.

Would be surprised to see him go for anything like the £300,000 that Taylor went for. In the Jan window clubs usually sell to avoid the player going for £0 athe season’s end. We might get something but nowhere near the fee some are suggesting. And it’s for that reason I would like to keep him even if it means him going for free in the summer. Preserving our hard earned place in League 1 must be worth many times more than we would get for him in January. UTG!

Exactly. No player is bigger than the club. We have sold our better players before and I am sure we will continue to sell our better players in the future. I appreciate what he has done for us but if he wants to go then let him go and we'll move on as we always do. We have offered him a contract that would make him the highest paid player in our history or one of the highest paid players in our history. As a club, we have done our bit. But if he still wants to go then fair enough. No point keeping a player that doesn't want to stay. I would though try and make a deal to keep him around until the summer to get us through this season with our league 1 status still intact, and then he can walk in the summer, with our blessing and good luck to him. How do you know that he's been offered a contract making him the highest paid player in our history? I said the highest or one of the highest (as I couldnt remember word for word what Hamer said last week and I couldnt be assed to look for it then, so I covered myself with either the best or one of the best). But here you go, I searched and found it for you.... 39 mins 40 seconds in, Twentyman asked Hamer about Bodins contract asking if that would be the best contract being given at the Mem. Hamer replied "It would be up there with contracts". www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05lps2zMy interpretation of that is Twentyman asking is Bodins offered contract would make him the highest paid and Hamers response confirming it would one of the highest paid at the Mem. Read into that as you want, but pretty simple to me. But as it was Hamer who said it, you probably wont believe it anyway!!

Taking away Lambert isn't it likely whatever decent contract we offer now is likely to be "up there", given it's 5 years or so since we were a Div 1 side and footballers wages have increased substantially in that time, it's how far "up there" which matters.

I'm just fed up of all the kicking of the team and the doom and gloom around here right now.
If he goes, he goes

I would suggest we have had 2 relegations this century after selling our best players and it could be argued its partly responsible for our predicament now. Of course a small club like ours cannot keep its best players but our track record of trying to replace them is abysmal.
