"I don't Want to see him succeed". Sure you are a Rovers fan? you’ve only selected half the sentence dude! I think I've done you a favour by not doing so.

I really can't see what anyone sees in Nichols. He’s more prolific than James. Doesn't work as hard though.

So first it was because he was playing on the left and now it is because he isn't playing alongside an experienced striker. Not having that. Just excuses. The fact his best moment of the game was missing a decent opportunity says it all I'm afraid. It was hardly a glaring miss as it brought a decent save from the goalie, Nichols scored 12 goals last season so he seems to have the ability unlike James. No but other than that miss he did f**k all hence it being his best moment. What he did last season is irrelavent. He can clearly do better than he has been. My problem with him is he is way too lightweight and casual for a player out of form.

I’d see past all that if he wasn’t sh&t or was a local lad - Haldane for example. Tbf will always think he was a top bloke after he brought a signed calendar to me in my sports shop when my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. She’s all good nowadays FYI - UTG

Although you do wonder what DC saw in him as he's hardly a typical DC signing. With him and Bodin only going though the motions yesterday it must be like playing with 9 mem, no wonder we improved when Sincs and Gaffers came on.

My first impression was lightweight and more bothered with his tan and holiday rep look. Not a fan whatsoever and I don’t even want to see him succeed as I’d prefer a “real man” on the pitch and not this little pretty boy. Sorry if that offends anyone. Old fashioned 33 year old here! His tan!! he looked quite pale v doncaster.

I think hes been much better for rovers than most people think. He is a team player and has followed instructions which didnt suit his game in many matches but being a good professional has got on with it. I dont think its been easy for any of the new players because several established regulars have struggled badly which hardly helps the new boys. Im not pretending that hes been a success just predicting he will be and very soon.

Whilst I agree he is a team player, there’s not a manager in the land who would buy a striker then say “Don’t worry about scoring goals so long as you’re playing well for the team”. As has been stated he was bought as Matt Taylors replacement and unfortunately hasn’t delivered. Hopefully he will come good though. UTG

UTG I'm not sure I would even class him as a team player or that being a team player is even a good thing. By this I mean a team player would battle for every ball for the team not duck out of 50/50's. Also strikers should have a selfish streak in them at times. He is what I would call a nothing player and I think his contribution is less effective than Luke James. The only defence I have for him is that we have been playing too directly lately. He has still massively under performed though especially given his apparent fee.

Is it just a mere coincidence that two similar players in Luke James and Tom Nichols both completely fail to hit the net no matter how many games they get ? Both with good ball skills and work rate. Both coming off of good transfers being paid for them over time. Sounds perhaps that either they are the wrong style of player for the way the club plays , or the club do not play to utilise them to their best potential. Or the players around them are not good enough to deliver the right kind of balls. Or that two skilful players are both rubbish ? Or maybe they both tried being team players when in fact they should be more selfish . Something Rickie Lambert mentioned when interviewed recently. Some fair points but not sure if 'good transfers' means anything. A lot of clubs make it part of their ethos to take gambles on young players - some work, some don't. Not sure if having money paid for you is much of an indicator of CURRENT use to any team. I just checked on Matt Grimes, and it's not good some very sensible comments on this thread for a change. I’m old enough to remember smash and grab, bannister the little terrier, warboys the blunderbuss!! That’s the combo we need, get a akinfenwa type along side Nichols and then see how many chances he gets. Oh and Matt Taylor still heads and shoulders above our current crop, what we would give for the lightweight Taylor scoring 20 odd goals out of 50 chances eh t-bone?

I seem to remember DC saying that he doesn’t go for the obvious 20 goals a season strikers that everyone else are pursuing (probably because they are out of our price range) but looks for someone who isn’t quite realising their full potential with the prospect of achieving that through coaching on the training pitch. I wouldn’t mind betting that the recommendation to look at TN came from MS because of their time together at the Grecians, To that end TN ticked all the boxes but as with every single player it is a gamble of sorts as no one can predict the future. However, as long as he is wearing the quarters I will be rooting for him.

UTG Like i said im not pretending hes been a success,i just dont think hes been as bad as some people believe and feel optimistic he can yet be a good signing and score goals for us.
