Let's face it. If JN was a loan signing he wouldn't get a look in, and would be sat on the bench every week, before being sent back to his club. He ONLY plays because we paid for him. We need an Andy Rammell and quick about it!

Not really true, Ellis is great this year and has always hinted at getting better but he has been terrible at some points in his time with the Gas. The snake was terrible for long enough but he came very good in the end, the boy should be doing better but maybe he might just surprise us yet, I agree time is running out for him, nobody would want to admit they p'd away a load of money, so I can see why DC keeps trying with him. He is a good footballer but lacks guts, that can be put in him ! I would loan him out to a Conference side and beef him up a bit and try to gain confidence, if that fails.........He is next years dog food. The snake was never terrible. He missed some sitters yes but even before then you could see his touch and brain was of a quality player. Also at least he worked hard when he wasn't scoring. The brain of a quality player. Please don't make me laugh. I take it you've never met him in person

Good players do, I think that’s what he meant.

Nichols movement and urgency to get on the ball in comparison looks like he’s waiting for a bus.

Nichols movement and urgency to get on the ball in comparison looks like he’s waiting for a bus. He's useless. I actually think technically he's a decent player but is hardly on the ball as he is too lightweight.

For me its a bit like ellis last season, not great or consistent enough but still contributing for the team. Clearly he needs some goals and i think there just around the corner but time will tell. Nichols isn't half the player Ellis has ever been for us! If you go back to august when i posted my "i love ellis" thread a curious outsider would have thought ellis was among the worse players ever to play for the club and a lazy useless idiot as well. Ive always liked ellis and despised the treatment he got at games and on this site. So well done if you were not one of that brigade and of course your opinion on nichols is valid as its your view, its just not my view of him.

What's he contributing? He works hard, has good control, uses the ball well and does make runs behind opposing defences, hows that? What he hasnt done is scored goals and like almost every other player in the squad been consistent.

Peterborough replaced him with Jack Marriott, paid for from the fee recieved for Nichols, who has got 17 league goals this year and will inevitably attract large bids from teams higher up the footballing pyramid. Nichols on the other hand would probably go for less than half the money that we paid Peterborough, to some L2 club if he doesn't improve dramatically in the next 10-15 games. Very disappointing, especially when you see Peterborough getting millions for their top players. We will be lucky to get 750k for Taylor and Bodin combined. A hindsight post though They also gave a 3 year deal to the guy who scored loads for dover and who posters on here were screaming out for us to sign but now hes in trouble with the law and hasnt scored for them yet. Its easy to sign the right players after the fact, not so easy before.

Does he work hard though, as most of the posters on this thread seem to think he doesn't, James and Telford appear to both work harder /get stuck in a Rovers shirt. Although DC/MS must have known he wasn't that type of player before they signed him, I assume that's why he got stick from fans at Posh?

I think he does work hard, I've seen him very willing to put in a shift, tracking back to make tackles.
I also think he has a great touch, and is one of the only players in our squad capable of beating a man.
It's unfortunate for him that he hasn't done what many perceive he was brought in to do.

I assume from this you have met him and also spent some time with him. what was he like? Genuinely interested by the way, because I still can't believe he was foolish enough to sign for the S hit.

I haven't wrote him off yet. I saw glimpses of promise last week when he came on. Maybe today could be his day?
Good luck Tom!

From what I've seen Tom so far, he can get himself in goal scoring positions and has good movement when he plays.
I don't have any stats, but I would be interested to know how many shots on target he has had saved and how many times he had hit the woodwork this season, I think it would be quite a lot. This to me suggests he knows where the back of net is as well.
So the question is why had he not been able to convert that into goals?
I do think we need to play a certain way to get the best out of him. This season I feel we have not played such a good passing game as we have usually been capable of which may come down to our lack of width in our formation.
We really need to sign a couple of decent wide players, as has been said many times by many posters, who knows we might then unlock his true potential.
Personally I've not given up on Tom yet and back him to start converting those shots on target into goals soon.
Hat trick today please Tom, no pressure or anything!
UTG!

I was looking at odds for 1st goalscorer today and apart from maybe Locks and Smith id bet on any Rovers player scoring ahead of Tom Nichols.
That says it all for me, for a supposed striker he doesn't do what he is supposed to do.
