An operator still has to push the pedal to allow you in appranrently. Wtf? So you scan the card and it beeps or flashes, and an operator sees that it's a genuine card and lets you in? Instead of looking at a ticket and letting you in?

There's no sign of an electronic chip etc built into on my card and I doubt they have one if you can just pick up cards at the shop, I'm guessing it's just a piece of plastic you insert in the machine and if you inserted any similar size card if would still "bleep" so the operator lets you in! What's farcical is that we have to revert to paper tickets for the cup games.

I thought they'd just "load" the credit onto your card if you pay for admission to the cup games...like at other (albeit better at this kinda thing) clubs

It's credit card size, so you won't even have to make one. Just use your Sainsbury's loyalty card.

I had a card at a former workplace that could be used for pre-paid food and drink from the canteen and vending machines....
To look at the card it had absolutely no signs of an electronic system but yet it obviously had one....

I don't know how the cards work, but I'd guess they're just a simple unique identifier. It can't update its info, it just casts its own number. When you go through the turnstile the computer senses the number checks it's legit and then opens the gate. There's no reason why you couldn't have the same sort of equipment in the food huts. Just wave your card at it, and it checks whether you've had your pasty deal or not. You could then make any sort of deal/offer at any time, and the system would make sure you can get the thing you're eligible for. I imagine they would use the same idea for match vouchers as well. Having said all that, I don't expect any of this to actually work on Saturday. I sense it's just a bit of plastic with your ID on it and the new machines are just sime card counters, if so, there should be little chance of them not working on Saturday or it being an issue on if they don't hence why there's been no need to test them pre-season. Not so much the cards that are likely to fail, but the computer system that they trigger.

Interesting to read Blackburn Rovers fans will be able to buy a pie and a pint etc with their ST card at the ground from November with the card linked to their bank account. It will also be able to be used at various outlets out with of the football club. I can now see why the club are charging £4 for a sausage roll!

I just hope the free one will include the sausage roll as I do not like pasties.
