How frustrating it is to watch Holloway as a guest on quest football when he could be at the mem working his magic what a waste But on the hosts question of returning to management he did hesitate in commenting so perhaps there is something happening behind the scenes Holloway did well at Rovers because he had a top coach and scout in Gary Penrice and the best Chief scout in the history of the club Richard Everson. Without them he has absolutly nothing to offer us other then funny quotes and hype.

I could write this is in one of the many threads on yesterday's game... manager is always going to take some blame but ultimately the players have to go out and perform ultimately they never. The keeper and and Payne only 2 for me that can come away from yesterday with saying they did all they could.
The team look very disjointed and the shape was all over the place, anyone sat in the stands could see this. There was a lack of movement and players were resorting to chance balls up field that some times come off. When I watch these sort of games I think to myself do our players every watch Man City, liverpool, Tottenham all these good footballing sides and think we should adopt their style of play...I know our players aren't world class but some if it is basic... move into space so you can receive a pass. We have a new pitch and it was hardly used.
Our biggest problems for me is full backs and centre of midfield pairing. We were beat out wide and looked slow, we have two wide midfielders who are not defensive minded so are always exposed to be fair to them. The centre of midfield was slow and were almost non existent can't play O clarke and Upson, they were second to every ball and never looked like controlling the game - which is sort players we need.
Just wasn't a good day at the office. Hoping the team are capable of producing better performance.

Poor game and performance all round. Thought it was harsh bringing Rodman off given he was the only one providing width and an outlet. Upson was poor but he wasn't helped by Sercombe (who should not be playing out wide) and Bennett not tracking back to help defend. Payne was a good outlet but needs service to be effective (the one time he received a decent cross the ball was headed home).
I just think, going forward, if DC isn't going to play proper wingers (we know he doesn't like wingers as they're "luxuries" and Bennett clearly prefers drifting centrally) then we absolutely MUST get our width from our full-backs - so Leadbitter and Kelly/THD need to play *when fit* as opposed to adopting a WBA-approach of playing CBs at FB. Lines/Upson like to drop in and almost play as third CBs so we'd still have adequate cover when the FBs bomb forward.
Likewise, yesterday we were at home to Accrington Stanley. Accrington f**king Stanley. No disrespect intended to them but Jesus wept, why are we playing two holding midfielders - Upson and Clarke - at home to Accrington... just. not. required.

I know a certain amount of bias comes into it, but every 50 50 ball came to them, their full back was able to take a throw in from wherever he fancied and their No 2 was given a final warning 4 times before finally being booked. Just wasn't our day.

Yesterday was the sort of lineup that John Ward was playing every week before DC came in to replace him. He needs to snap out of that, and fast.
Four slow CBs across the defence, two slow and defensive-minded midfielders in the centre, 3/4 players out of position... just horrendous.
We need DC to dip into the loan market for a fullback and centre back IMO, but it would help if he played a sensible team.

Injury perhaps?

It's clear we either need THD to get fit, and fast or we need to give Kelly a run/sign another LB. Pretty clear Clarke is a decent backup RB at best in this division so, for the life of me, I can't understand why Leadbitter isn't being played. Sure, he's not the best defensively but both McConville's goals yesterday were down to Clarke switching off so it can't be much worse?

Injury perhaps? I was also bemused. He said it was 'tactical' in his post-match presser but not having that whatsoever. However, we know full well from over the years that DC has a dislike of wingers...

That's just weird.

Here is the direct quote re: Rodman sub...
"The second thing was, why Rodman came off, was there an injury?
No, it was just a change of tactics, put a couple up there. Rodders wasn’t putting a lot wrong to be honest with you but you change things about, sometimes it works for you, sometimes it doesn’t."

Don't panic peoples - every season DC uses the first few matches as experimental before he decides which and where the players should play - come Christmas we will be fine. Well he bloody well shouldn't be - that's what pre season friendlies should be all about. On yesterday's shambles we will not be fine by Xmas - I wish I shared your optimism. We have no real quality in the back line and very little up front - the signs were plain to see against Exeter and yesterday. He has quite rightly taken the plaudits in the past - he now has to take the criticism.

Only one on show yesterday "arrived late" and he was our best player on the day. What do they do in training all week?

I honestly think you have lost the plot Ollie has had quite a few opportunities as a manager, in the main he hasn't been particularly successful. What makes you believe he should return to the Gas? He's got clubs promoted to The Premier League. Blackpool and Crystal Palace.
