and what if we go down? we keep him? the only benefit of playing in League two is that Nicholls might score more than one Honest answer...I think we do keep him if we go down. Firstly, I think that a manager who dragged us back from a fate that could very easily have been that of Torquay's (went down with us and currently playing the likes of Chippenham, Bath City and WSM) deserves a crack at restoring us to where he took us. But I accept that sentiment isn't enough on its own. If we do go down, what will also be important is that we have a manager who can get us back up. Darrell Clarke has proved he knows how to do that. He knows the club, he knows the players, he is still popular with the supporters, he has success whilst working under budgetary constraints and if we do drop will have had just one bad season in five. All in all, he fits the bill exactly of what we would be looking for if we were to sack him. So what would be the point in sacking him? If however we go down and by the end of that season in League 2 there was no sign of progress, then his position should be reviewed. Every manager has a shelf life, even the successful ones. I just think ours still has a lot to give. Good post well articulated.

Seen the thread headline and purposely haven’t read the thread . All I say is I 100% back DC . Best manager in my lifetime..... 40 odd yrs following the Gas. It’s above him where the blame should lie Those above him didn't sign these players, and neither do they pick the teams every week. At some clubs he would already be gone Its hard to compare with other clubs though surely. Help me out maybe by naming the other clubs that have gone up 2 divisions under one manager in four years? Then i can do a fair comparison. Thanks in advance.

If we do go down then DC will have overseen a decline for well over 18 months, I can't honestly see he's going to turn it around next summer just because we're in a lower division, unfortunately football management doesn't normally work out that way. Plus you'd have to question whether DC would even want to start all over again with us in Div 2, nor oversee the massive clear out of players which would be required. There's also the big unknown as whether to DC's lost his desire at Rovers &/or is looking for the sack.

There's also the big unknown as whether to DC's lost his desire at Rovers &/or is looking for the sack. Not sure about any decline being 18m by then, but presumably you are suggesting that it started around January? Might that be at least partly due to losing his best player and top scorer for the second time in a year and having only a fraction of the funds to replace him? And he's then had to do that again when Ellis left in the summer. No manager can keep on replacing their goalscorers. I think it's a fair point to make that he may not turn it around and that management isn't usually like that. I guess my counter would be that maybe that's because relegated managers don't often get the chance to return, but there are occasional examples such as Sean Dyche and even Ollie in his first QPR spell, where it has been achieved. As for the throry that he's trying to get the sack, I've read this a few times on this forum but am not sure where that impression comes from. DC doesn't strike me as a quitter. Aside from the odd barbed comment at the owners in interviews, what makes you say that?

I take the point with Bodin, albeit the modest fee we received reflected the time left on his contract over his ability. Harrison wasn't exactly prolific however and it's not unreasonable to suggest his attacking contribution could have been replaced.

Bodin's fee, whilst frustrating, was reflective of his contract length. I think that is a fair point about Harrison and it would appear that his goal return will not have been replaced with Payne. Early days, but that is the suspicion at the moment.

Presumably, as Rovers fans, we all WANT Darrell to succeed. If not, what are you doing here? If he succeeds, Rovers succeed and we're happy.
Some may feel that he won't succeed any more and the time has come to change things, and that's fine. Everyone has their opinion, and rightly so.
But on the basis that the common goal as Rovers supporters is that we all want success, surely as Rovers supporters it is our responsibility to get behind him and the team on matchdays. That is the part we play in the success of the team. It's in the job description.
So come on, let's start playing our part on Saturday. Let's actually get behind them, something that if we're honest, we've not done particularly well ourselves this season.
Let's show other sides that we have the best supporters in Bristol. Let's show Darrell and the team that we WANT them to succeed and will play our part in helping them to do so, whatever misgivings some might have about certain issues. Let's start it with "Darrell, Darrell, Darrell" as he walks across the Mem pitch on Saturday at 2.55pm.
Let's leave the debate for after the match, remember the bit about "faithful and true" and get behind them like Gasheads do.

I'm not sure that sacking DC is the answer, but I don't think it is simply a given that he is the right man either.

It’s refreshing to know that other gasheads do have a sense of loyalty and perspective The manager deserves our respect and backing. Of course this is a difficult time. But In difficult times you stand strong and I for one am proud to support a team with one of the longest serving league managers. He is learning as he gets experience. He is a gashead. I’m taking my son to Barnsley in a few weeks as we are touring the Lake District and will luckily get to cheer on the lads on route back to Bournemouth. He is now 9. His first memory is Wembley and the penalty shoot out. For him, we are doing just fine. He said dad, we went from league 5 to league 3. No reason why we can’t go from league 3 to league 1........
