J.Clarke isn’t your extravagant modern day attacking wing back but I’d say he’s probably the most consistently solid performer we’ve got. To let someone go who was a lot of people’s vote for player of the season and who will not be on very big wages would just be ludicrous in my opinion. So we have probably offered him a contract on “not a lot of money” but maybe he wants more and GC doesn’t want to waste the extra money when he feels he’s not worthy of it. Hardly gonna spend his budget bumping up existing players contracts

Hardly gonna spend his budget bumping up existing players contracts Personally if it means paying a bit more to keep one of our most consistent players then I’d do it. If he’s been offered a worse wage than he was on previously then that would be harsh considering he’s just had his best season for us in as higher division we’ve been in since he arrived. Maybe it’s due to cut backs, if it is and he leaves then I’d be surprised if we can bring in better on a wage less than what JC was on because I can’t imagine he was one of our higher earners. I’ve got a really sh**e feeling about next season I hope I’m wrong.

Jc probably one of the most consistent players last season total effort worth keeping as versatile but depends how tight the budget is.

I always like players that give their all for the shirt and JC certainly does that. He's barely L1 standard though, in fact I don't think he is but he work rate, determination and attitude means he achieves his full potential. My biggest worry if he left would be that we would be losing another leader.

Should have got Luke Trotman on a free before he signed a new deal this summer at Darlington. Will play in the league one day I reckon. Was close to joining Manchester United a few years ago.
Tom James from Yeovil would be class too. Andy Lyons at Bohemiams in Ireland is also a very good prospect and has a chance of making full international appearances in the future, if he keeps developing the way he has been doing.
I'd also get Matty Bowman in to the development squad from Scarborough if possible, or at least trial him, before someone else signs him up. Looks a good prospect to me.

Trotman has played for England C, Lyons for Ireland at youth level, James in the Prem once and Bowman for the England Independent Schools side.

Tom James would be a great player, I was also impressed with Callum Brittain at MK and see that Manchester United are likely to release Regan Poole this summer. How gettable these players are I’m unsure but think any of the 3 would improve this position and would offer competition to Clarke if we were able to offer him a deal that would keep him here

Partington was out for a long time injured.I wonder if he will ever get back to full fitness. Clarke always puts in a shift, always trying.Madness if he moves on.

Mk Dons have much better facilities and will probably pay more if they need to. He will go for a decent fee in the future. Poole is decent too, but mainly a centre back.

The one we had was Neal and the one I'm talking about is 21-year-old Luke.

It amazes me how we are always so critical of our own players without thinking about what sort of quality would replace them. We are worse than City fans when criticising players. for me James Clarke is capable of covering the whole back four which could be a vital quality if numbers are reduced.

The fact that JC can cover the whole back line is one of the main reasons to keep him. Even if he isn't first choice. If he goes we would need at least two players to cover the same areas.
Its a bit harsh if he was offered less. I cant imagine he was one of the higher earners. If he wants more and is happy to drop down a league then that's his choice but it will be a big loss for us.

No loss on Parts.
JC leaving would be awful. It's not often you get a player of his quality that can play anywhere across the back 4.
Losing Lockyer, Lines, Clarke & Sinclair in 1 window for leaves an awful feeling in my gut - feels like the heart of the club really being ripped out

Potentially 3 new players now I think about it!!

Spot on. Too many fans get obsessed about having someone they deem 'top six' material but on our budget, and for all teams at this level, you need good solid club men, reliable strong characters who are happy to be in a squad and won't rock the boat if they are not first choice. Sincs would be in the same bracket and should have been retained. Would be madness to let JC leave and I really hope he stays. I would allow Parts to leave and bring in a more attack minded right back with JC providing cover for that position and anywhere across the back four.

So would you pay JC a starting 11 salary or pay the first choice RB that wage? JC's a good solid defender but we need THD's equivalent on the right if we're going to progress. If we losing £3m p.a. then already then good luck to him if he finds another Div 1 side who'll offer him a better contract. What's the point of keeping Sincs when he wants 1st team action, it's better for both to part rather than keep a frustrated player sat on the bench.
