IMO that would definitely be a marquee signing I'd love Eaves here, personally Eaves and JCH would put fear into most league 1 defenses. Would never get an easy game. Rumour is he's off to Hull.

Smith was an unused sub in the 1st leg of doncasters play-off semi-final and not in the squad for the 2nd leg. Ollie mcburnie was hardly used in our promo season and would now be seen as a marquee signing

Says elsewhere we have three players who need ops including Sam Matthews.Thought he'd gone to Eastleigh and didn't realise he was still with us. JCH having an op too which is worrying.

Although I assume Smith is replacing Jakubiak and so there's still the budget left for 1, or 2, marquee signings.

I agree though and will be disappointed if we end up failing to sign a proven goal scorer at this level as our problem has been our offensive play over the last season yet so far we’ve only really replaced players from our defence. I do wonder if JCH was from the summer budget and effectively was bought in to replace Payne early though.

If JCH needs an operation than that must be at least 3 months out if he hasn’t had a pre season on top of that.
Slightly worrying if we start the season with Nichols & Reilly (about 7 goals between them last season) and a novice loanee forward.

I don't remember anyone getting excited about Anyinsah and Gill...and if they did, they obviously haven't got a clue what they are talking about. But well got excited about Tom Nichols.... Everyone gets excited about everyone! People were talking up Mathews last season like he was going to be some revolutionary player when really, who had seen him play before he signed? It’s the same every pre-season, we sign Mickey Mouse and someone on here will pipe up and try and big up their knowledge of lower league football by eulogising what a great player they are. People are already talking up this Smith lad like he’s a phenomenal signing when on paper he looks like a typical desperate Rovers signing. And that’s not any disrespect to the lad- he has to start somewhere, even Ronaldo looked an iffy signing on paper at one point because he hadn’t played any games. But what I’m getting at is that it’s always Rovers who sign these untested players instead of signing someone proven. It’s typical Rovers that we hear about a player from Sheff United and Leon Clarke and it’s actually some youth who has barely played like Jakubiak and Telford- and both of those signings didn’t really contribute much, youth strikers from the upper divisions hardly ever do. But that’s our transfer business in general really: all the teams around us sign players who have had a good season at this level the previous year and caught the eye of our fans whilst we sign the likes of Upson who got relegated. He was talked up too and turned out to be less than stellar. I shouldn’t complain I guess as we are Bristol Rovers and haven’t made a show stopping signing on paper since Craig Disley. The rest have all been players who may come good, some do some don’t. It would be nice just once to see us signing highly rated attacking players from this division but I expect that cost and, more importantly, geography are the reason that Fleetwood and Shrewsbury can make these sorts of signings. We can’t compete and it is becoming increasingly clear that we can’t with every pre-season. Look at Bonham choosing Gillingham over us etc. I guess I’m just frustrated that our transfer business seems to have been in decline for years now. I can’t see anything more than another low scoring battle with relegation this season......I hope someone brings this post up when we finish in the top 6!

The lad on loan from the blades will undoubtedly be a useful back up player; however, none of us will be expecting him to fire BRFC into the play-offs; for me, a marquee signing, will score 20+ goals a season, lead the line and bring others into play.

Because I don't expect any to arrive. I’m quietly confident that another striker is being / has been lined up either permanent or on loan and IF God forbid JCH is out for a while expect two on loan.

JCH having an op too which is worrying. Where’s this info from? GC said a couple of days ago that THD, Clarke Harris and Kelly were injured. He added that two of them were going to have operations to sort out their injuries. He did not say who the two were.
